Attention all cosplayers, NDK has some new photo opportunities for you! Continuing on our effort from 2019, Cosplay Photoshoot Meetup Signup is Coming Soon for 2021! We want to continue to give new opportunities to our Cosplay community, and hope that this helps with the demands for photoshoot spaces!
NDK Photoshoot Locations
Gaylord Rockies features an unbelievable number of beautiful new photoshoot locations. We have collected some of our favorite spots from the hotel and we can’t wait to see which spots you discover.
More popular locations will be reserverable for a period of 30 min with a 30 min break between shoots. The reserved time slots are Friday between 6:00 pm and 10:00 pm; Saturday between 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM; Sunday between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm.
Groups must provide their own photographer. Please note that all professional photographers shooting in the Gaylord Grand lodge must fill out paperwork with the Gaylord before NDK weekend proving they have insurance. There are locations available within the contracted convention space that do not have this requirement.
See below for information on the incredible Gaylord Rockies photoshoot locations, the current calendar of scheduled meetups (Coming Soon for 2021!), and the form to reserve your time and place (Coming Soon for 2021!)

(Photos of 2021 locations Coming Soon!)
Grand Staircase: What a wonderful location to show off those extra large cosplays or extra large groups. The waterfall adds a dynamic active background while the white stairs and natural lighting make a costume really pop. This spot will be open to reserve during peak hours.
Waterfall Boulder: This is a fantastic spot for smaller or single group shots. The waterfall behind is a beautiful backdrop and the lighting from the large skylights is fantastic. The boulder and waterfall give a very natural backdrop while avoiding any of Colorado’s more temperamental weather.
Torii Gate: What Japanese Cultural convention would be complete without a Torii Gate? Torii gates are a common Japanese gate, most often associated with Shinto shrines. You can see them in many anime. Large and dynamic, this is perfect for almost any anime cosplay and traditional and modern Japanese clothing. Best for smaller groups. This spot will be open to reserve during peak hours.
The Bridge: A wonderful bright spot from the skylights. On one side you have the waterfall and grand staircase. On the other side you have the lake with beautiful lights. You also have the industrial beauty of the bridge itself. This is a fantastic space for larger groups. The large rivets on the steel beams would make a fantastic backdrop for a steampunk group.
End of the Railroad: What appears to be the end of the line, is a start to a beautiful photograph. Wonderful, natural light from the skylights brightens the area. Perfect for a small group or a single person, this is a very natural backdrop to make your cosplay shine.
The Grotto: A delightfully spooky cave, large natural features allow the cosplay to really shine. This is a larger space than you might first guess and can allow for medium size groups of cosplayers.
The Caboose: Yes you read the title right. There is an actual caboose in the Grand Lodge, just to give you an idea about the size of this hotel! This rustic red caboose makes a fantastic background no matter which side you choose. From Marriott: “The Gaylord Rockies Caboose, found in the Grand Lodge, was purchased from the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. This train car was delivered to the resort from its last known location outside of San Bernardino, California. Assigned to Kansas City during its heyday, it often traveled to Atchison, Topeka and Pueblo, in addition to some likely trips to various cities in Oklahoma and Texas. It was retired in 1987.” Please stay off the caboose. Climbing on the caboose is not allowed.
Cascading Waterfall: This spot is just pure fun. The sheeting the water creates is a fantastic background. There are many angles this waterfall can be used from, including underneath. Due to the limited size of the walkways around the waterfall smaller groups or single models are recommended. The one exception is the rock bridge, which can fit a few more cosplayers for a shot. Please remember to leave room for others enjoying the Gaylord.
Lake Front: With all the amazing sunlight coming in from behind you lighting up your models faces you can’t ask for a better spot. The serene lake behind the models makes for an interesting and beautiful backdrop. Please stay out of the water. This spot will be open to reserve during peak hours.
Chandelier: This is the one reservable photoshoot location that is within the convention space. This means insurance and registration with the Gaylord is not required to shoot here. Located at the start of panel rooms on the second floor, this space is large enough for almost 50 people or more. There is a ton of natural light from the windows. There is also a beautiful chandelier that makes for a beautiful background. This spot will be open to reserve during peak hours.
