NDK 2012 Press Policy

Thank you for your interest in Nan Desu Kan, Colorado's largest convention and the premier anime convention of the Rockies. We feature two different press badge classifications: Standard and Emerging. Please see our Press Policy below for details (and the Credentialed Photography Policy, if applicable), then go here to register.

Applications are reviewed on a yearly basis. Applicants and/or organizations who were approved the previous year may not be approved for this year.

If you've attended NDK prior to 2012: please note the changes in policy, especially for photographers.

Please note: Press Passes are limited in number. Applying for a Pass does not guarantee one. Additional non-press assistants, stylists, etc, are not eligible for Passes, will not be permitted into Press-only areas and must purchase a regular badge to attend NDK.

Questions? Please contact the NDK Press Office.

Standard Press

If you have previously covered NDK, have already made arrangements with the Press Office and/or meet the listed requirements (see below), please register as Standard Press.

If you attended last year as a member of the Press, a copy and/or link of your previous coverage is required prior to Press Pass approval and will serve as the deciding factor in your return this year. Standard Press organizations are generally granted up to four Passes per team, but larger teams may be accepted. Click here to register.

Standard Press Passes feature:

  • All features of the Emerging Press badge (below).
  • Guaranteed access to the priority photographer pit (if applicable) at concerts
  • Guaranteed access to the press seating area during special events.
  • Limited, guaranteed seating to select panels. (advance approval required).
  • Early admittance to AMV events (advance signup required).
  • Access to private interview and photography areas.
  • The chance to request private interviews with our Guests of Honor.
  • Private (standard press only) breakfast on Sunday.

Emerging Press

If you are an amateur journalist affiliated with student media and/or taking Journalism or Communications classes, focus solely on photography, represent an organization founded after the January 1, 2011 deadline, are new and/or do not meet other listed Standard requirements (see below), we invite you to register as Emerging Press.

Emerging Press applicants are limited to two (2) Passes per organization their first year of attendance. Click here to register.

Emerging Press Passes feature:

  • Complimentary weekend pass to NDK.
  • Access to press seating areas/photo pits if space allows.
  • Photography allowed in Dealers Room and Artists Alley (must identify self to staff members, photos of specific merchandise require prior approval)
  • Entry into press conferences (advance signup required).
  • (Mandatory, but FREE!) breakfast at the Press Meet-and-Greet reception on Saturday.

The Emerging Press Pass offers exclusive access and seating for photographers, and allows new or amateur press to attend and get to know us as we get to know them.

How to Register

If you are interested in attending NDK as a member of the press, please submit a Press Pass Registration form. Be advised that Passes are limited and not all applications will be approved.

There is a limit of four Passes for each Standard Press organization, however:

  • Emerging Press organizations are limited to two (2) Passes their first year of attendance.
  • Not all Standard organizations will warrant four Passes.
  • Have a large crew coming? Exemptions for Standard Press organizations are possible. However, there are no exceptions for Emerging Press. I have to get to know you first. :)
  • Please only register genuine Press applicants for your organization. Each Press applicant will receive separate consideration. If an applicant is found to be false, Passes for that entire organization will not be approved and/or will be revoked.

How to get your badge at-con

Please note: a valid photo ID is required for press badge pickup. For identification purposes, each Press member can only pick up their own pass.

When you arrive at the convention, please pick up your badge at the Press table, located in front lobby of the Marriott Denver Tech Center to the right of the Registration Desk. Without your Press Pass, you will not have access to the convention. Please wear your Pass at all times while conducting Press business.

How to lose your badge

Warning: to ensure the enjoyment and safety of NDK attendees, Guests of Honor and other credentialed Press, the NDK Press Office reserves the right to revoke any Press Pass at any time, for any reason. A credentialed Press member who has their badge revoked will not be permitted to return to NDK in the future, as Press or a general attendee. In general, do not:

  • Interfere with attendees' enjoyment of the convention.
  • Bother a Guest of Honor.
  • Violate general attendee rules (please see the Program Guide for a full list).
  • Request autographs or sketches outside the normal autograph sessions and/or not follow the guidelines set forth by Security staff manning autograph lines (aka don't cut in line for non-Press reasons!).
  • Bring non-press general attendees to interviews
  • Bring non-press general attendees into press-only areas without prior permission from the NDK Press Office.
  • Do unprofessional and/or inappropriate behavior.
  • Violate any policy set forth by the Press Office and Nan Desu Kan.
