Parking and Public Transportation

she3205ex-159244-Exterior--16th-Street-MallWe realize that NDK weekend will be a busy one in Downtown Denver. With the taste of Colorado and several other trade shows going on in the area, parking will be both hard to find, and priced higher. What is an NDK-er to do? Take a look at our tips and tricks below for the savvy traveler.

Are you a light traveler, or just coming for the day? Will your luggage be no bigger than a backpack?

For these circumstances, we highly recommend light rail (or any type of public transportation). It truly is the most direct and economical way to get to NDK. Have someone drop you off at your local light rail station, or park your car there over the NDK weekend.

Parking and payment at light rail stations depends on the location. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the payment procedures before parking at any RTD location over the weekend. http://www.rtd-denver.com/LightRail_Map.shtml

If taking light rail, the Sheraton is only a 5 minute walk from the 16th & California Stop! We timed it!

There are also taxis, super shuttles, and services such as Uber and Lyft. These services are usually very reasonable, and much cheaper than paying $15-30 per day for a parking lot. Plus, you won’t have to struggle to find a parking space at all!

Are you a cosplayer with a lot of luggage? Do you have large props?

Consider carpooling your luggage instead of yourselves. For example: If you have a group of people all going to NDK together, designate a driver to haul all your belongings to the hotel. That way all participants are only using 1 parking space, and can even split the weekend cost. The other folks, now free of the burden of stuff, can get to the hotel by light rail, or finding another ride that won’t need to park. i.e. public transportation, Uber, Lyft, a taxi, a really nice parent etc. Basically, arrange to meet your stuff there and help your driver friend unload the car.

A similar option, which was suggested, is to drop off stuff at the hotel, then drive to a nearby light rail station that allows for overnight parking, and ride the light rail back. It takes a little planning, but may not be as cumbersome as it sounds if you’re staying for the whole weekend and have a room at the Sheraton.

Do you know someone who is willing to drop you off? That is an ideal way to get to NDK with a lot of stuff and without having to lug it through downtown Denver. Remember, just because you found a parking space near the hotel does not mean it will be easy to get all your stuff there.

Remember that taxis, Uber and Lyft also work if you have a decent amount of luggage.

Alternative transportation is just not going to work for me. Is there anything I can do if I must park downtown?

Please still consider carpooling with friends who are also attending, if at all possible, so that cars that must park are full ones. That helps anyone looking for a parking spot!

To aid in finding parking spots, please consider services such as Spot HeroBest Parking, or Parking Panda to help you navigate the area. Please keep in mind that this is a suggestion, not an endorsement. NDK does not have any arrangements with these or any other similar services. PLEASE NOTE:  The Sheraton does not own the parking garage attached to the hotel.  There will be parking charges for using that garage, even if you are staying at that hotel, and will vary based on length of stay and type of vehicle.  Please Visit the Sheraton’s Parking Information Page for current Valet, Self Park, and Overnight Rates.
