Hotel FAQ

How do I reserve a hotel room?

Please visit our exclusive room reservation site to reserve your hotel room for Nan Desu Kan 2014.

Room reservations for NDK are handled by a third-party booking agent called PassKey. To avoid problems with booking a room, please only use the link provided above. Do not call the Marriott to reserve a hotel room. If you do, your room reservation may not be guaranteed.

Does it cost money to reserve a room?

No. There's no cost involved in reserving a room for NDK. For this reason, we strongly recommend that you reserve a hotel room as soon as possible. Even if you don't have the money for a hotel room right now, you can still reserve one because you won't be charged for it at this time.

If it doesn't cost anything to reserve a room, why do I need to enter my credit card information?

You need to enter your credit card information in order to secure the reservation. This card will not be charged as a result of your reservation. You'll also need this credit card to claim your reservation when you arrive at the hotel, so be sure to bring it with you to NDK when you check in.

If I can't make it to NDK, can I cancel my reservation?

Yes. You can cancel your reservation at any time. If you cancel at least 24 hours in advance, there's no charge for canceling your reservation. If you fail to cancel at least 24 hours in advance, however, the credit card you entered may be charged for the equivalent of one night's stay for any rooms you reserved.

To cancel your reservation, please visit our exclusive room reservation site and click the "Already Have a Reservation?" button near the top of the page. You'll need the confirmation number from when you reserved your room to log in. Do not call the Marriott to cancel your room reservation. If you do, your reservation cancellation may not be guaranteed.

What's the earliest day I can check in with NDK's room rate? How long can I stay?

You can check in as early as September 9 and you can check out as late as September 16. Check-in begins at 3:00 PM. Check-out is at noon, though you may be able to arrange in advance for a late checkout (2:00 PM) for an additional fee.

How much do rooms cost?

There are three types of rooms available for reservation at NDK 2013. Prices vary depending on the type of room and the number of occupants in the room. The base rates are:

  • Standard Room (base $99/night)
  • Outside Balcony Room - Non Atrium View (base $109/night)
  • Atrium View Room (base $129/night)

The base rate is the cost of the room for up to two occupants. Add $10/night to the base rate for each additional occupant over two (maximum occupancy of four).

Do atrium rooms cost extra?

Yes. Atrium rooms are $20/night more than standard rooms. The increased cost allows the hotel to secure the reservation for you, and it also helps cover damage from people hanging decorations from their balcony.

Only rooms labeled "Atrium View Room" have balconies facing into the atrium.

Anyone who books an atrium room has the opportunity to win a free stay (Friday and Saturday nights) by participating in NDK's Fourth Annual Atrium Decorating Contest.

Are there any atrium rooms still available?

Maybe. To check, view our exclusive room reservation site. If you see an option for "Atrium View Room" there are still atrium rooms available. These rooms are highly coveted and are always reserved very quickly, so don't delay in making your reservation.

Only rooms labeled "Atrium View Room" have balconies facing into the atrium.

How many people can share a room?

Each room is based on one of two possible configurations: one king-size bed or two double-size beds. Regardless of which configuration a given room has, there's a maximum occupancy of four people per room.

Note that having more than two occupants in a room will incur an extra charge per night. Please see the answer on room rates for more information.

Can I pick which room configuration I get in advance?

Sorry, no. Room configurations are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis at the time of check-in.

Can I change my reservation?

You can modify your reservation at any time by visiting our exclusive room reservation site and clicking the "Already Have a Reservation?" button near the top of the page. You'll need the confirmation number from when you reserved your room to log in. From there, you can change your room type, reservation dates, guest details, and credit card information. Do not call the Marriott to modify your room reservation. If you do, your reservation changes may not be guaranteed.

Why doesn't the hotel accept my confirmation code?

Because all of the room reservations for NDK are handled by a third-party booking agent (PassKey), the confirmation code you receive after making a reservation will only be used by PassKey. This confirmation number is not used by the hotel's reservation system.

If you need to modify or cancel your reservation, please visit our exclusive room reservation site and click the "Already Have a Reservation?" button near the top of the page. You'll need the confirmation number from when you reserved your room to log in. From there you'll be able to modify or cancel your reservation. Do not call the Marriott to modify or cancel your room reservation. If you do, your reservation changes may not be guaranteed.

Will rollaway beds (cots) be available?

Rollaway beds will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. The hotel has a limited number of rollaway beds available for use and when they run out, they run out. For this reason, we strongly recommend that attendees don't rely on being able to get rollaway beds when figuring out sleeping arrangements.

What's this about a deposit?

In order to cover any potential room damage and any "incidentals"--e.g. internet service, pay-per-view movies, etc.--the hotel will require a deposit at the time of check-in. The deposit is $25 per room per night. If you reserve one room for two nights, the deposit will be $50. If you reserve two rooms for two nights, the deposit will be $100. The deposit is mandatory and will be required of everyone checking into a hotel room without exception.

How and when is the deposit charged?

The money for the deposit isn't actually withdrawn from your account; at check-in time, the hotel will only authorize the withdrawal against a credit card of your choice. If you don't have any charges for room damage or incidentals during the course of your stay, the authorization will be released and no money will be charged. If you do have any incidentals to pay for, only the the cost of those incidentals will be withdrawn; the rest of the authorization will be released. The authorization will be released shortly after you check out of your room (within a few days).

Can I wait and get a room at the convention?

No. Though some reservations are inevitably canceled, the odds of being able to get a room at the hotel without making a reservation in advance are effectively zero.

I called the hotel and they said they were sold out. What gives?

Because the hotel sets aside every available sleeping room for NDK attendees, their systems show the hotel as being booked solid, even if there are rooms still available for attendees to reserve. Please visit our exclusive room reservation site to reserve your hotel room for Nan Desu Kan 2013. If there are still rooms available for reservation, they'll be listed on that site.

Will you be partnering with other hotels?

Yes! Because we sell out the entire hotel each year, we'll be partnering with other hotels in the area to ensure NDK attendees get discounted rates. We won't be announcing these partnerships until the last room available at the Marriott has been reserved, however.

I forgot to reserve a room and the con is only a week away! Help!

Sorry, but we can't help you out there; if the hotel is full, there's nothing we can do. You try one of our other partner hotels to see if you can get a room nearby, though. We'll have more information about those when the Marriott sells out.

What about parking or public transportation?

Please see our Parking and Public Transportation pages for more information.
