To those in gowns, suits, and other tuxedos, thank you. You were very classy.

I agree. There were quite a few more people dressed in formalwear than many of us were expecting. I, for one, thought it would lean much more heavily toward cosplay. And some of the formal costumes were fantastic. I was particularly impressed by the young woman dressed up as Belle from Beauty and the Beast (who came with friends dressed as other Disney princesses). That was exactly the kind of thing we had hoped to see.

Oh, and Boomerjinks:

tuxedos + proton packs == awesome Cheesy

Several of us on staff got a real kick out of that.

Afternoon all!

So I have almost finished processing all the formal images I took New Year eve night.  I have been trying to get the images posted on my website for viewing, but the their server is not letting me in to change my website.  So I hope to be able to get this corrected soon.  For now here are some of the pictures I have from the balloon drop! Not sure why it did not work, link worked when I just tried it?

I should have the sample pictures posted this afternoon.

Hm, the link didn't work for me. D= No idea why. Anyways, it was pretty much made of awesome. Besides reluctance from my friend to dance. I eventually got her to dance. xD; I was sorta dissapointed at the lack of formal wear, or at least cosplays, myself. D= But, I thought both Chef from South Park and the formal Yoko from Gurren Laggan were amazing. =D The Final Countdown and Thriller(Though I failed terribly at it) were both awesome. =D

Planning on going to NDK NYE and NDK 2010! I'll be Advent Children Yuffie for one day, maybe Ritsuka, I'm going to do either a green haired Terra, or Kuja, and a secret project that nobody cares about. Cheesy

On the subject of formal attire.

I was a little bit underdressed this year, I was by no means in jeans and a t shirt, but I was also not in a dress suit or tuxedo.

I can understand the frustration from people who were well dress and put a lot of time into their costumes be it formal attire or cosplay;  But I would like to point out that just because some us were less well dressed as others , it does not mean it was because we were not trying.

I know a lot of people put a lot of effort and time into there cosplays. However not everybody is able to dedicate that much time into making very elaborate cosplays. I had just a few weeks ago finished two collage courses which I had dedicated most of my time to, I have also moved back to Colorado from Iowa. I would like to point out that just because some cosplay were less elaborate than other, it does not mean those people were trying to take an essay way around the dress code.

I would also like to address the subject of people who were not in cosplay but where wearing slacks and dress shirts instead of tuxedos, and dress suits. For those people who were able to rent or buy tuxedos or really high price classy gowns, thank you I enjoyed seeing you well dressed; however some off us simply do not have the budget to buy a new shirt right now. For example I have just moved back from Iowa which cost money, also my house in Colorado never sold, so I am currently paying for two houses. In addition to the expense of moving I took my car to its annual check up last week, and was told the breaks needed to be fixed. I know car places are notorious for finding things wrong with cars, just to get income; however it is in the middle of winter, and I have a two year old family member who rides often in my car; therefore I was not going to risk the delay on getting the breaks fixed, and had to except the last minute cut into my NDK NYE budget.

I would like to thank and acknowledge the people who put a lot of time into there cosplays, and money into renting or buying fancy clothing, however for some people time and a even a few extra bucks are commodities we do not have.

Now that there is whole year in front of us, and not just a few month, there is a better opportunity for people to save up for fancy dress cloth, and plan for time to be spent on making cosplays for next year; but please ease up on the harsh comments toward people who may have had lacked formal attire this year.

Go to Goodwill or The Salvation Army store, seriously. Hours before the ball I went there and bought black dress pants for $5! Nothing wrong with wearing used clothing, besides its only for that one night, at least. I'm sure any guy can find nice pair of pants, button down, and a tie for $10. there really is no excuse not to dress up nice for a BALL

I was directing my post towards people who were being harsh to people who had slacks and a dress shirt; some people still thought that dress pants and a dress shirt was not good enough, and was a pure lack of effort; but dress pants and a dress shirt really is the best some people can do.

When I said I was underdressed, I did not mean I was not dressed up at all; but I definitely  was not in a tuxedo or elaborate cosplay.

Well I think that this thread has run it's course, most especially since the event has already occurred. If you have more things that you would like to discuss about the ball, please post them here. However, we have seen quite a lot of discussion on the dress code, I'm sure that the directors will discuss this further when planning future events.
