Very Important: be careful

(1/3) > >>

Zarabadoo:
With so many people coming from outside the Denver area for NDK, it seems that it would be a good idea to help out the travelers. We would prefer to have this forum used to post details about travel deals you have stumbled across or just ways you like to get here. It is inevitable that you will also use it for setting up carpools and caravans also.

Carpooling is a viable option for getting to our fine city, but we urge you to be careful when arranging rides with strangers. I know this sounds as though we are being overbearing and nagging, but we feel it needs to be said. People can have very different personalities online and can pose a threat if they see an opportunity. If at all possible, arrange pools consisting of friends, family or others that you know.

If you do arrange some sort of ride with a stranger, get as much information as possible to give to people that you know. Travel plans, numbers to get a hold of you at and possibly even description of the car are all good things. We also recommend having a cell phone that can easily be used on the road and at the destination. In an emergency it is definitely a lifesaver.

Unfortunately, we cannot be responsible for your safety while you are traveling. It would bother us greatly if someone is injured or went missing en route to the convention. So we urge you to find the safest travel plans to get here.

In closing, have a nice trip and we look forward to seeing you here.

I really think this is important!
Even if you are comming for somewhere in State, you should always be careful when Driving/Rooming with someone you don't know well...

Kaylin:
Yeah, because I really could be a forty-year old hairy man with no job and lives with his mom.

dannthr:
Muahahahahahahaha!  Into my car, my pretties!

Seriously, though, definitely be more than careful.  You may joke about creepy old hairy men but looks don't decide who is trustworthy.  Even a 20-something, clean student can prove deadly (lest we forget that not too long ago a quiet college student killed more than 30 people).  People are capable of such inhuman violence and we can't make accurate superficial analyses of who is safe or who is not.

Simply put: Do NOT put yourself in that situation--do not let it be a possibility.

I am amazed at times at how easy it is to find information on the people we speak to on the internet (and likewise how easy it could be to falsify information).

For years you could google "dannthr" and come up with a map to my apartment!  What could I do?  It's google.  And I'm a 6'1" 25 year old college student.  I don't usually worry about walking down dark streets at night, but really when you think about it, size is meaningless when any sort of serious weapon or planning is involved.

If you're under 18, you probably shouldn't even consider carpooling.  Con your friends into hooking you up with a ride or going along with you.  Otherwise, be intelligent about your travel plans.  Do not put yourself in a potentially dangerous situation.

You are really right, dannthr!
I really think that it should go beyond just the ride to/from, though. You have to be careful there, too. Denver is a busy place, and there are alot of weird people (Not us. P: ) Around. Just always make sure to have some sort of way to reach someone.
