I will drink water, but I'm not going to be to worried about water since I live at like 9,000ft elevation and I don't really have any problems. But for all those who don't live in high elevation should drink pleanty of water!!!!

Not to mention those wigs! Holy cow! I have short hair, and am wearing a wig this year that reaches the middle of my back. Keeps you warm in this cold weather, that's for dang sure.
(Ha ha, I wore it to the grocery store today. I'm such a dork. :P)

Here's a suggestion: Try to not make too much noise outside of the viewing rooms. :P

A bit of courtesy to your fellow fans never hurt much.

This year we have some folding screens to put outside the video room doors. They won't block any noise, really, but they'll keep people from congregating right in front of the video room doors.

I'm also going to be directing the video room staff to tell people talking near the doors to move along. This should help improve things to some degree.

Wow, I skipped right over this when I was looking for help... although most of my questions are about budgeting, events, or panels.

I actually have something helpful to say here, though!  The Marriott has a food delivery service that will order in food from local resturaunts for you.  Sadly, it only operates from 6am to 11pm(same as room service).  I think taking a break and going out at least once is the way to go... but if you can't tear yourself away you still have options.
Also, this was mentioned in passing, but I wanted to be clear:  The rooms at the Marriott have mini-fridges.  That means you can have veggies, sandwich fixings, or other cheap nutritous things.

I look forward to seeing you at the Kan!

Thanks,
Val.

I've been going to cons for 8 years and have attended the small and large ones...

Nan Desu Kan, impressive for going on for 12 years. I'm going to take a stab it's the location in the rockies and not being in a more accessible of population heavy area as to the lack of growth, (Not a bad thing since after a certain size, it should become industry run since normal people just can't handle the size, look at AX 2007)

So for someone who already knows the ins and outs, and does and do nots, of anime cons, what can I expect to be different at Nan Desu Kan, than any other convention?

We still do pretty good were a top 15 con in attendance numbers.  One thing you should know about NDK is that were a family friendly convention so some things and costumes that may be ok at other cons are a no go at NDK.  While yes we do have some panels where there are age restrictions we don't show any adult programming.

Fiddlesticks, the heckling/MST3King at the Hentai showings were one of my favorite events.

I guess it would help to get a map of the area too to see how everything is divided up.

Some advice to new people from my experiences at NDK. Make sure not to forget anything at home that you'll want to bring with you to the convention such as your ID if you pre-registered and sufficient funds if you want to buy things in the dealers room. Make sure not to leave any of your belongings lying around the hotel because unfortunately not everybody turns things into lost and found. Make sure to shower, wear deodorant, and drink plenty of water. Also try not to talk to much, you might lose your voice. Try to be kind to everybody and use common sense.

What else? Sleep. Some people honestly believe they can go to the convention and stay up for 3 days straight. If you're sleep deprived the convention won't be as enjoyable. Don't worry about missing out on something going on at 3:00 AM because hardly anything is. That's all.

Let me second what Exodia just said, there is a lot going on that weekend and I've seen to many people try to take in to much.  Have fun do as much stuff as you can but not at the expense of eating, bathing or sleeping.  At 3 in the morning theres probably 2 video rooms going, karaoke, and possibly a late night panel if there was ever a time to catch a few z's thats it.

Fixed that for you. :P

(We run three anime video rooms that run 24 hours a day.)

I just wanted to say THANK YOU to all of you who have given such great tips, info and suggestions!
I'm not too knowledgeable on cons and this is my first NDK and first time in Colorado. So trust me, all this information is VERY helpful for us "outsiders" =D thanks guys!! I also like how lots of you are enforcing the "guys, be cool" rule. Since trips can really become uncomfortable and basically a bummer when you're met with a lot of rudeness. =/

:D looks like i'm going to like it there.

Not sure where you are coming from, but since you said it will be your first time in Colorado you might want to make sure and pump the liquids.  The altitude here can be rough if your not used to it :)

Another thing to keep in mind is that you will either waiting very long for elevator time or you will be hiking up and down stairs.  Simple maneuvers such as stair stepping can be taxing at 5280.

Can we only get the final schedule at the hotel or can we get it anywhere else?

We post the schedule online just before the con. The schedule is an ever-changing thing, pretty much up to the last few days before the con. For that reason, we can't post it more than a few days ahead of time because it would be inaccurate by the time the con rolled around.
