Hello NDK.

I am happy to say I am going to be an uncle! It could not happen to a nicer couple! I know they will be great parents. She raised her sisters and he is a kid...

To celebrate this great news we decided to have a family cruise. We have never been on one so I am hoping some ndkers have and can give tips,deals and ideas. We want something simple for noobs around the caribbean. 7-9 days the month of September- first week of December.
I have been looking at http://littleton.cruiseholidays.com/

Amadis:
Congrats!!

Well the only ships I've ever been on have been Carnival ships, so I can't speak for any of the other lines. My mom used to work for Carnival Cruise Lines so she was able to earn a couple cruises, and we always had a good experience. I've been to Nassau in the Bahamas a couple times on 4-day cruises, and that was really nice, but my favorites were probably the couple of 7-day cruises visiting Cozumel, Jamaica, and the Grand Cayman Islands.

7 to 8-day cruises seemed like there was more to do on the ship, because there's a couple days just at sea. You're still fitting in several ports of call, but the atmosphere on the ship seemed a lot more relaxed. Shore excursions are awesome if you can afford them, but just getting off the ship and going shopping or walking around is fun, and there's always stuff to do on the ship.

I believe you need a passport even for sea travel now, so I'd suggest getting all your travel stuff in order before you even think about booking a cruise. Also I'm assuming you meant last part of November/early December, so remember that Hurricane Season in the Atlantic is June 1st to November 30th. The first cruise I ever took was in October and we were right on the edge of a tropical storm. It was amazing and a little scary, and I got so sick ^^; but you can get some pretty good deals during hurricane season and there's no guarantee that anything bad will happen. You should definitely be prepared for if something does, usually travel plans back and forth before and after the cruise being disrupted. Prices go up quite a bit after hurricane season ends though, I've always found it worth it.

I'd suggest looking at cruises on the cruiseline's official websites and figuring out what you want, but a good travel agent can be really helpful with figuring everything out. Cruise consultants at the cruiselines are really helpful too, but you gotta remember that they're monitored and assessed on how their sales are. So their goals are pretty much always going to be to sell you a cruise. If you need time to talk about different options then do your research and talk to a travel agent first, know exactly what you want, and -then- book the cruise.

um that's all I can think of for now, and I'm certainly not an expert, but feel free to ask any questions ^^

I knew I could count on this site for info! ;D you know your mind is tuned to anime when you read "Grand Cayman" as "Grand line" ::)

We all already have our passports and I have been looking up prices and times none stop since I found out...did not know about hurricane season...We are thinking kinda the 7 day trip so yay but on the other hand we don't want to make the mother to be sick! We need to go either before December or after Augeust next year.

how bad is the season around St Thomas?

Amadis:
Well I've never been to St. Thomas, but out of all four cruises I've been on only one had any sort of crazy weather so it's really just luck. As for being sick, I get motion sickness pretty easily but I never got sick after that first cruise with the tropical storm; it was my first time on a ship but the waves were pretty rough due to the storm, so I don't know if I would have gotten sick without that second factor. It's gonna be different for everyone but if you can just learn o move with the ship instead of fighting the waves then you adjust. The staff are obviously going to be prepared for seasick people though, so you know you'll be taken care of if anyone does get sick ^^;

Man now you've got me looking at cruises...I bet if I saved up I could afford one for my birthday next year or the year after that

mesona:
After a lot of talking, planing. Fighting, crying and blood shed for what should be on a pizza 8) we sat down and made plans to do a cuise in September! Yay!!!!!!!!!! We just need to book the date and two of the slowpokes need to still get passports but then it's all done.
