I'm gonna go out on a limb and say no. They've never given us free wifi before, and it wouldn't really matter, because there would be so many people trying to use it that it would crash the system anyway. The Marriott is only set up for a few hundred people using wifi, not a few thousand.

Even if the quantity of people using wifi didn't crash the system, it would still be so slow that 56k would feel like nascar speed

The best you could hope for is free hardline internet, which is also unlikely, probably for the same reason.

The free computer room at the Marriott was closed at Starfest, so I'm not sure if it will be open this year at NDK or not. Usually it is, which gives you access to a computer. We stayed at the Marriott this year and we had to pay to get internet in the room.

From my experiences with staying at the Marriot at past NDKs they usually have the computer room open, tho they have closed it for a few hours in the past to non-hotel guests due to either large number of non-guests hanging out in there and/or using the computers for lengthy amounts of time.  Another reason I've seen them close it is when they're having a problem with one or more of the computers (damage, people going to sites they shouldn't, etc...).  Best thing to do if you find the computer room closed is just go up to the front desk and ask, either they'll let you in, or they tell you no. :)

Marriot as a hotel chain profits greatly from charging for internet in the rooms, and immensely for panel rooms and the dealer room (they make bank). There is free wi fi in the hotel lobby near the Starbucks, and if you have an awesome computer you can hack that from nearby rooms. But as for that computer room, never used it so I assume it works as long as its open :p

Last year the Starbucks had their wifi turned off, or the masses broke it. Either way it wasn't up after about 3pm Friday.

If all else fails and no wifi, if you can afford it, you can use your tethering app on your android or IPhone :)

Yeah, as the others said the best option is the computer room.  Though I've never seen it closed, and hopefully they wont close it this year.  I mean I don't use it much but occasionally I'll just on to check dvd prices if I see something in the DR.  Since I plan on doing that beforehand this year, guess it wouldn't be a big deal exactly.

But yeah I really doubt they'll ever give free wifi, definitely would cut into their profits.  Minor curiosity, wonder how much they make off charging for internet during NDK/Starfest weekends?  Part of me wants to believe it's a lot but I don't know...oh well.  Anyway yeah OP your best bet is to use the computer room, phone tether app, or check the local businesses for wifi hotspots.  Hey does anyone know if Wendy's has free wifi?  I know some fast food places do, that may be an option.

Can't recall what the exact rate is for the land line in the room, but I think it's between $9-19 per 24 hrs starting the minute activated.  As far as the hotel Wi-Fi goes, I believe it gets turned off sometime Friday after checkout as I've seen people in the lobby surfing on laptop as late as 2pm on Fridays there at NDK.  Whether they are on Wi-Fi or Cellphone internet I don't know.  I do know that I have used my Laptop's Wi-Fi early Friday mornings and late Sunday nights on the con weekends there at the hotel, so if you're staying at the hotel outside of the convention days/hours you should have Wi-Fi at that time.

*edited* just looked up on the Marriott website and it's $12.95 a day for landline internet, unlimited long distance in the country, unlimited local calls.

I do believe there's wifi in the lobby.  I've hopped on it once or twice throughout the weekend (usually early mornings) before.  But I can't remember if I used it last year. I mainly used the computer rooms last year.

You were probably catching the Starbucks wifi before it got overloaded/shutdown.
