Help about hotels!
« on: April 09, 2012, 10:15:21 am »
I was hoping to get a hotel as close as i could to the marriott, but i went through hotwire thinking I was getting a walking distance room. As it turns out, I got a hotel 5 miles from the marriott. I was just wondering how this will work, for cosplay changes and such. I dont know anybody with a room in the marriott so I cant really change at the main hotel....So to anyone that has done NDK from a further location, How does this work?

Thanks to ayone who can help! :)

They have overflow hotels that give you discounts to their usual rates. They have a page for that here: http://ndkdenver.org/additional-hotels
Click on the passkey and you can book a hotel room that will be only a few blocks from the convention. This is the only overflow hotel they have right now.

Maybe make a friend with a hotel room on Thursday or Friday (or here on the forums) that will let you store cosplay stuff in their room?

I'd say plan your outfits very carefully, maybe just one per day. Focus on making each outfit spectacular but comfortable to wear for long periods. Make checklists of everything so nothing gets forgotten at your hotel. Be careful about bringing any weapon props on public transportation. And be prepared for cosplay contingencies where you might need a sewing kit, hairbrush, or makeup touchup or something like that (I know Yuki usually does cosplay repair in the artist alley, if you're in a fix)

Ask the hotel you're staying at if they have a shuttle. That way you wouldn't have to worry about parking, just give them a call when you need to leave. You might be able to get in costume changes that way too.
The person who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the person doing it.

very helpful, thank you!!! I would love to make friends with anyone that does have a hotel room at the merriott, But it feels a little odd saying, "hey can i use your bathroom to change in? and store my back pack here ?" lol. So I think i might try to keep my bags in a car *hopeful for a parking space*

Closer to the con itself,  many people post up that they're looking to share the room in the hopes of bringing the individual cost down quite a bit. I know that with Hotwire you can cancel at any time without penalty, so it might be worth trying to find a roomie. That way you're out less money, and you don't have to worry about the travel. Also I don't believe that the overflow hotel is sold out yet, and that's right down the street, about a 10 minute walk, or you can check with the Hilton next door.
Tell me now. Is there a man among you here? Is there no one who will stand up and try to fight?

thats quite a good point. Although its more than just me. its me and 2 to 3 others. So I would need to find somebody looking for a couple room mates.

I have a room at the Hilton Garden Inn, right across from the Marriot. If you need a place to stay, PM me. I do have some rules, though none of them should be too hardcore. I'll be arriving to Colorado via plane at around noonish. if you need my phone number or anything for contact, please PM me.
