Bows and arrows?
« on: February 26, 2012, 03:42:28 pm »
Hey, so I haven't really seen this question addressed yet, but sorta need to know. What's the cons policy on Bows and Arrows? I am assuming no metal tipped arrows of course, but I'm a bit in the dark beyond that. Thanks for any help!!!

The bow is ok and a fake arrow (foam arrows, etc.) are ok as well. No real arrows, no fake arrows that are hard (wood, etc.) as they can still hurt others if they were actually fired.

Got this straight from our ops head:  Bows are fine as long as you don't nock and draw it at the con.  As for the arrows, as long as it's not a piercing arrow or a metal tipped arrow, it should be fine.  The big thing, here, of course, is, don't knock and draw.  As long as you don't neglect that, even a straight up wooden, blunted arrow won't hurt anybody.

I can also help to identify bootlegs, if you have a questionable item, send me a message and some pictures if you can and I'll get back to you when I can.

Other than that, please stop by Operations to have the bow and arrows peace-bonded and to hear our safety brief.

Thank you Skrae!  ;D

Just an addition and a very specific warning to keep you from being unnecessarily hassled by my Staff:

When we say no nocking or drawing, it means keep the arrows completely separate from the bow, pretty much always. If you were to hold the arrow near the string in a pose for a picture outside, possibly.

But if my Staff sees an arrow being nocked, you can imagine what would be running through their heads...visions of accidental tragedy abound. I would not hesitate in asking you to leave the bow behind should an incident of that sort occur. Provided that it doesn't you will be fine!  I'm guessing your costume is going to rock :)

Of course Sarge! Yeah, I figured I would keep all my arrows in the quiver. For pictures, would it be ok to draw empty? In other words for posing would it be alright to draw back without anything nocked? Or to pose with the bow and pretending to reach for a quivered arrow without the arrow ever actually leaving the quiver? Lol I could always draw out the poses to get them approved :D

Total agreement with Sarge. Posing is fine, the only major issue is "String-and-arrow" contact. Pulling the string back with nothing in it sounds fine to me as well as posing the reach for an arrow, so long as the arrow doesn't touch the string.
