I'm happy. Got my hotel room for NDK 2012
« on: January 28, 2012, 11:27:31 pm »
Well overall I'm quite happy. I'm booked at the convention hotel this year. Sadly I wasn't able to get an atrium room. The computer where I work doesn't allow access to non-work related websites.

I am curious. How long did it take for the balcony seats to get fully booked? I'm asking mostly out of curiousity. Hope everybody who wants a hotel room puts their order in fast because I have a gut feeling they won't last into Feburary.

All the best

Louis

I got what I wanted as well. The Atrium Rooms lasted no more than 10 minutes and the standard rooms no more than 6 hours.

Does that

Does that mean the hotel is completely booked?

Yes. Everything is sold out. But don't worry, they will be giving us the overflow hotels soon. And you can always keep checking back. People sometimes have to cancel. Especially last minute.

Yeah, we blew last year's record of 2 months out of the water by almost 2 months.  :o

Atrium rooms were gone in 5 minutes, standard rooms in 6 hours, and the rest of the hotel in 3 days.
Planned cosplays for 2012:
Big Boss (Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater), Black Waltz 3 (Final Fantasy IX), Nappa (Dragonball Z), The Stig's Spartan cousin (Halo/Top Gear mashup)

(groan) How far away are the overflow hotels? Walking distance? Are they cheap?

The Hyatt which is our current overflow hotel is .4 miles away from the Marriott, just down the block. With crosswalks and all it's about 9 minutes to get to the hotel.

The Hyatt also has a free shuttle for hotel guests, free parking, and special NDK-only rates. Book here or get more info here.

I stayed at the Hyatt in 2010. It was a pleasent experience. Anyone may find the Hyatt more perferable if you like to have quiet time. Their swimming pool was awesome too.

I can't believe the hotel sold out so fast! I think this means we might hit the cap this year. More people than ever are going to be at NDK this year I think. It will be fun. I stayed at the Hyatt in 2010 as well. It was a bit of a walk, especially if the weather won't be good (but since when do we have bad weather? xD). But the hotel was nice. A little bit quieter than the Marriott was last year.

Oh please don't say that. I haven't been able to buy my badge yet. (fretfretworryfret)

A quieter hotel is always a good thing, though. That's good to hear.

I think the hotel selling out has a direct correlation to announcing exactly when the hotel code would be available. There will be more people this year than last year (NDK has always grown from one year to another), but there is still a bit of room for growth without hitting the cap. The quick sellout of the hotel doesn't automatically ensure the sellout of the con.

The Hyatt is a great hotel! I've stayed there for several other cons before and its a lovely place.
The person who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the person doing it.

So the Atrium actually sold out in five minutes? Lord, I was on my lunch break trying to book, and I somehow missed out on one. Next year, I'm hitting reload on the forums, NOT the front page.

I actually found that the link had been posted on Twitter rather quickly, before Facebook if memory serves, and of course, their servers are meant to handle alot more than ours are.

yeah, twitter and facebook are blocked where I work. Something to keep in mind for myself then next year. At least I managed to get a balcony.

I got my room booked almost right away. . . Glad I did too, I didn't realize how quickly they sold out.
