MY wig problem is that I can't find one. I don't want to resort to the internet yet, so does anyone know of a good wig store in Denver of the Denver metro area?
Give a man a fish, and he'll stink up a town. Give him a fishing pole, he'll poke out your eye. See? Perfect logic.

You can also go the route of putting a curling mousse into your hair and then using a diffuser on it.  I do this when I want curly hair, and it works wonders.  The reason why braiding and sleeping on your hair didn't work is that you likely didn't have enough product in your hair to hold a shape.  Dirty hair will actually hold a style better than clean hair, since after washing you've taken out all the oils and other stuff that gives your hair texture.

I suggest stopping by an Ulta and chatting with a gal there.  She could show you where the curling mousses are.  If you don't own a diffuser, you'll likely have to buy a hair dryer that comes with one (or see if one of your hotel roomies has one she can bring!).  I hope that helps. :)

Okay, so this isn't a wig question but this still involves hair. I have naturally straight black hair that goes slightly past my shoulders, with a layer that hits my chin, and long bangs that hit the bottom of my nose. , I need to curl it like in this picture.

I have tried washing my hair and braiding it then sleeping on it. Did not work.
Any suggestions?

Mitsu -  There are several shops in the area that carry wigs.  They won't be as high quality as those you can find online, but if you're looking for something simple, they'll do the trick.  Here are some links to local shops.

http://www.reinkebrothers.com/store.html
http://www.wizardschest.com/
http://www.studiolites.com/shop/

I've only purchased wigs from The Wizard's Chest.  They carry a selection that's better than cheapie Halloween wigs, but not as awesome as some of the stuff you can find online.  Their staff is actually very helpful.

Here are links to my favorite online wig shops:
http://www.amphigory.com
http://www.cosworx.com

Urk. I'm doing spikes, so adding hairspray is sort of unavoidable... is there something I can use to minimize running, or at least prepare/compensate for it?

If you don't rub the colored areas while the hairspray is drying it should be fine. I hand-coloered my Axel wig and sprayed the spikes heavily with hairspray, and the color stayed in place. Again, avoid touching the colored areas while they're wet.

>w< I'm no expert, so my advice may suck.. but

Try getting velcro, you can by it in packs where it has a super sticky side.

Put a few tabs on the bottom of the wig head, and the other tabs down on a solid surface to anchor it.

I need some help with braiding wigs.

I'll be buying this kind of wig: http://cgi.ebay.com/Heat-Resistant-Black-Long-Straight-Cosplay-Wig-7401B_W0QQitemZ150367164868QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Women_Accessories?hash=item230294d9c4&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262

And I'll be braiding it like this: http://img2.ak.crunchyroll.com/i/spire4/06112008/e/b/b/b/ebbbe3580cc720_full.jpg

If anyone has any sort of knowledge on braiding wigs, I'd love it if you'd help me. xD

are you in my head?  i had that though right before i read this....  but what i ended up doing has taping it very solidly to a heavy peice of wood as i have no velcro.... it looks like a white manicen head taped with blue painters tape to a tan peice of 2x1 wood...  very ineresting looking, but it doesnt fall down any more during styling!

I need some help with braiding wigs.
If anyone has any sort of knowledge on braiding wigs, I'd love it if you'd help me. xD

If need help on how to get the braids to stick out to the sides like that, braid them around a wire and then stick it into the net. After that you can glue, tape, sticky, clip it any way you want to. If you're going to use tape or glue, do it on the inside of the net. I would suggest clipping it, though. ((That's what I did for a Raggedy Ann costume wig))

If you want to know how to get the ends of the braid to do that spike effect, you have two options. You can either spike it with gel or flat iron it (since it's heat resistant) for a more natural affect.

Lastly, if you need help with the braiding part, first separate you're bangs from the rest of the wig and tie it off. Take if from someone with fizzy hair who had to braid a lot. It will help BIG time. Then divide the hair in half or in what proportions/areas you need them to be braided in. Then tie off the other clump(s) of hair. Once you made sure there are no unwanted hairs in the clump you're about to braid, you can start!

I don't if I answered you're answer or not. Sorry if I didn't. ^^;

Darn. Just an update: I don't think I'll be able to get any wigs from ebay...

Anywho, I dunno if this belongs here, but would anyone mind directing me to a site with some really good wigs that don't go higher than 30 bucks? And can be shipped quickly? ._.;;

You're asking a lot for good wigs under $30. Cosworx ships very quickly, but depending on the length of the wig you need, you're gonna have a hard time sticking under that $30 limit.

As lilacwire noted, you're asking a lot to get a good wig for under $30. I've never bought a wig for less than $35, and most have run closer to $50. Cosworx tends to be a bit of a better buy than Amphigory because they have much more reasonable shipping (I pay about $5 for a wig with them, Amphigory charged me $10 for standard shipping on two packs of loose hair and it took longer than Cosworx).

You can either get it cheap OR you can get a good wig, except in rare circumstances when you find a really good deal. And if you get a cheap wig, it will be very apparent. It won't look very good, and it will be much harder to work with. That's why I order all my wigs online. They may be more expensive, but they're much nicer and worth the extra cost. Cosworx will get your wig to you quickly, but you should order within the next couple days to ensure that you have time to style.
I 'ship Xigbar/Vexen. Wanna make something of it?

Planned for 2010:
Organization Vexen (final version)
Atlantean Vexen (formal robes)
Halloween Town Vexen
Apprentice Even
Lexaeus
Larxene
Major General Olivier Armstrong (Fullmetal Alchemist)

Thanks for the feedback guys. :3 The only wigs I've bought are from one of the costume shops in Colorado Springs, and...they're decent, I guess. But probably not worth buying for 30$. :|

Thankfully I've found a wig that's 25$, but it'll end up being 35 bucks for express shipping. xD Oh well.

sllys beauty supply.  like 3 dollars for the basic one, but they also have some of the nicer ones for a bit more.  what i did was i just weighted down one of the basic ones with a paice of 2-4 and it works great.  but if your are an experianced cosplayer, investing in a nicer one wont hurt...
