This thread makes me want to come up with a costume totally unrelated to any sort of popculture thing. Like Che Guevara or something.

Actually, though, The Ronin's avatar makes me want to see a Stig cosplayer at the NDK or StarFest. I would die. In a good way. :P
((Actually, I would do it myself if a) the helmet by itself wasn't like $800 and b) I was taller than, well, my height :( short Stig, nooo. D: ))

Anyway, I think to encourage creativity is part of the reason there's no 'restriction' on convention costumes.
Is this how time normally passes...
...really slowly...
...in the right order?

I wasnt really trying to "exclude" or bash anyone, i was just wondering why some people dress like that. Well i guess you can dress up whatever you like.

And Daft Punk, nice helmet. My band actually plays daft punk songs, and i use a talk box to sound epic like them.
Thanks man, thats awesome!

If I see someone going around as Che Guevara in a manner that's not obviously satirical (like zombie Che) they're getting a VERY stern talking to.

I will be the Stig one year. I just need the $2000 to pull it together. I'll need a race suit in the next year or two anyway, so why not? Doesn't really matter what size you are though, Most pro race drivers are fairly short (if you don't count NASCAR) and you can always be a Stig "cousin" (Big Stig, Rig Stig, Communist Stig, Enviromentalist Stig, African Stig... The list goes on)  When I finish my Halo armor, it'll be white and I'll be "The Stig's spartan cousin"

yeah.  I was surprised to see that the last Stig was over 6 feet tall.  Sounds huge for an indy driver.  Like a fighter pilot, I never expect them to be that tall.

Not sure about the new guy.

Yeah, I've seen quite a few non-anime characters though last year I saw this gal dressed like Holly Quinn from the Batman cartoons and I've got to admit she looked hot. Throughout the weekend I kept asking "Where's your Puddin?" (Puddin being Holly's sweetheart nickname for the Joker). Based on her reaction she liked it. Of course I've seen my share of Heath Ledger style Jokers which to me just looked creepy.
The best Joker I saw was the guy who dressed up as both TDK Joker, and TDK Joker in the nurses outfit and seriously nearly looked the part.  Dude was awesome I congratulated on his costume almost every time I saw him, couldn't help it.

I honestly love just seeing what costumes pop up at NDK, anime and otherwise.  Makes for a more interesting atmosphere when you can get some awesome, unexpected non-anime costumes.

Nurse Joker was Keith. I don't think he's on the forum though. Also I heartily agree. Another thing is that even though some people may have spot on picture perfect anime cosplays, I don't always get it because there is SOOOOOO much out there that I haven't seen. Seeing domestic stuff that is instantly recognizable makes me feel more comfortable.

I'm doing a steampunk costume this year which isn't anime related, but cosplay isn't really the convention. The convention is anime and panels and Japanese culture, the cosplay is a bonus for people. The day conventions become only about the cosplay then you can call it one big Halloween party.

I'm doing a steampunk costume this year too. No, it's not anime related excatly, but it is science fiction/fantasy, and that's close enough for me. : ) Besides, one of my favorite steampunk novels has just been released as a manga, so there ya go... it fits in perfectly now. ; )

I agree with everyone else though. The con isn't about cosplaying, that's just an added bonus. I like to be able to wear my steampunk outfit as often as I can, and NDK is just another excuse to keep changing the costume, and come up with new weapons and other fun stuff.

The last time I showed up at a con dressed as a non-anime character (V for Vendetta) I got mobbed by screaming fangirls the moment I walked in the door. It was awesome.
