The defining factor for me attending NDK would probably be if I can bring my own Gamecube controller for Wii fighting games, and my own fighting stick for PS3 fighting games. You guys seem to be pretty strict about "bringing in hardware" for whatever reason.
Though this was a few months back...
As of the last couple of years, there has been a side set-up for fighting games where we have our own sticks that we let others use, but you could bring in your own controller/stick/what-not for your use. It's not a planned organization and
IS -NOT- IN ANY WAY AFFILIATED WITH NAN DESU KAN OR ANY OF IT'S PARTNERS[/b][/u] (lol disclaimer) but I assume if it's two years running with pretty solid popularity, then I'm sure it'll be there this year. Also, since it's a free set up, there's no liabilities; keep your eye on your own shiznoe and you'll be good.
Last year had Smash Melee and BlazBlue mainly. I'm going to assume this year will be Melee, MvC3 and some Blaz.
On a comparative subject that wasn't approached too well it seems with this thread: The Wasabi vs the NDK game room. To be fair, Wasabi's game room is completely run by the gaming organization Colorado Cutthroat. Theirs (Wasabi) is 24-hour AFAIK, they run tournaments with a national professional rule-set, you can bring your own equipment and if not, borrow equipment with use of ID/Wallet/Car Keys/etc., (surprisingly good) prizes for placing in tournaments, a large variety of games with mutli-station emphasis on popular games (3 MvC3 set ups, two 4-TV sets of Halo 3, etc.), and sliiightly more room.
I think they need to have cool down periods like NDK, cause it gets crowded and stupidly hot with all the systems running, but otherwise Wasabi has NDK beat due to the for-gamers, by-gamers set-up.
I'd say it's comparing apples and oranges for tasting like an orange. NDK focuses elsewhere while Wasabi has a separate group focusing on the video game parts of the convention. Comparatively, NDK's room is less than stellar compared to Wasabi, by quite a bit IMO. Still, not exactly enough to keep me out for a whole weekend. And with the people bringing their own TVs and systems on the side to play (it's been down the hall from the video game room,) I'd still say it'd be good to attend if for that.
