A fond farewell to BakuDan
« on: February 28, 2011, 05:42:14 am »
We’re saddened to announce that Dan Peak, one of Nan Desu Kan’s founding staff members, is stepping down from the Board of Directors of NDK’s parent organization. He’ll be pursuing his dream of teaching martial arts and we wish him the very best in all his future endeavors.

Dan, known to most people at NDK as “BakuDan,” was a pioneer of NDK’s Video Game Room, which he headed from its inception until he joined the Rocky Mountain Anime Association Board of Directors in 2007. There he earned a near-legendary reputation among staff and attendees alike.

As the Staff Director for the convention, he was a relentless champion for all of NDK’s many staff members. With his policy of open communication and his uncanny ability to get to the heart of a problem, he was ideally suited for the position. Depending on what was needed of him, he played the role of problem-solver, confidant, or shoulder to cry on.

Dan will be missed greatly, and we want to extend our heartfelt thanks for his 15 years of dedicated service to NDK. He has left this place far better than he found it, and for that we’re truly grateful. His legacy of integrity, honesty, and fairness will never be forgotten, and we’re all better people for having had the privilege of working with him.
The official account of the Board of Directors of NDK's parent organization, the Rocky Mountain Anime Association.

Farewell Good Sir

Cheers to your new journey being as successful as your NDK journey has been.
You are an admirable teacher and your new students will be very lucky to have such a great man of reverence and honor as their mentor.
Thank you for your many years of wonderful service to NDK, we are very fortunate to have had your magnificent leadership for so many years.
It would be splendid if you would stop by NDK or NDK NYE and bless us with your presence.

Bakudan,

Thank you for everything you've done.  We will miss you at NDK, but as with any good teacher, we need only remember what you have shown us, and you are with us yet.  And you have given us the gift of your trust to do just that.  As you now go to pursue your dream, you continue to make the world a better  place.

Arigatou gozaimasu, sensei.
Godspeed and may your dream continue to burn bright that others may see.

And one big hug to a good friend, too.

Thanks for making NDK what it is for all the rest of us, Dan. :) Have fun and good luck!

I actually started training when I was about 10, when my mother put me in karate classes. I did that for about 9 years, got my black belt in karate and then dropped out when the school I was going to closed. After a few years of loafing, I started studying taekwondo with a guy who used to be a co-worker of mine. I did that off and on for several years until he asked me to come and start teaching at his school, when I started training again super hardcore. I was certified 2nd Dan in taekwondo after 6 years teaching for him, when his school finally closed. That was about 3-4 years ago, so I've been a bit out of shape since then. But those years of teaching, especially teaching the kids, were the best years of my life. I got paid, but I would have done it for free. I'm looking forward to going back to them. ^_^

Yes please tell us when you open the school and where it is. I'm curious as to what your teaching style is like. What are you planning on teaching?

Thank you for making NDK awesome!!!

I can tell you that his teaching style is awesome! A balance between understanding, pushing your limits, and having fun with it all. Let me know too, I'd be honored to come train with you again Dan.

BakuDan was awesome.  Last year after finding out that Thursday night I attempted (unsuccessfully) to sleep in a bathtub, offered me the pullout in his room if I found myself not sleeping in a bed again.  I thankfully didn't need to take him up on it, but it meant alot.
