Am I seriously the only kid that grew up in a Christian household where my parents encouraged me to enjoy anime? I think my mom walked in on me watching the original Appleseed right when Deunan blurts out a line of handy expletives and all she said was, "Well wasn't that lovely."

Nope, I did, too ^^ My parents were the type to protect me, but let me do what seemed right for me.

Man, some of you had messed up parents. Any time my mother had an issue, I'd just break out kimba the white lion and remind her she used to watch it when she was young. She loves Bebop enough she named one of her dogs after the show.

..o3o my mom is actually pretty dang supportive, always has been.. but I do have one complaint.

#45. Ask why you need new cosplays. "Wear the ones you already have!" Never mind that I always take multiple cosplays with me (including old ones!) I pay for my cosplays myself, and I've just don't FIT into some of my old ones. Why yes mother, I do in fact have trouble fitting into things I had made when I was 17 and 30+pounds heavier o3o;

My family as well is generally good or indifferent at worst, but my dad (who is usually cool) on occasion had his moments....

46: Rant about how you are "wasting" money on anime, and how it would be much better spent wasting it on a hobby he likes.
47: Get mad that you are "wasting" money buying anime when you could just pirate it. (I am not joking, I am surprised I did not turn out a prolific pirate with that kinda role model. I try and try to explain about supporting the industry and all that, but he to this day cannot break out of the mindset of "but... but... WHY would you PAY for something you can get FOR FREE!?!?!?!". I guess growing up in the Soviet Union has had a lasting effect.)

My mom saw one time on a manga that it said "Graphic Novel" and she freaked out thinking that it meant graphic as in naughty. I had to explain to her otherwise. xD

#49: Ask constantly if that is a "Boy or a girl" character. Even if you've already told them who it is.

Okay the whole "graphic novel" bit is pretty funny.

#51 Ask about anime and then ignore everything when you try to explain it.

(Honestly my moms pretty cool about anime/i guess/ She just lets me do what I do as long as it doesnt get me into trouble. She doesnt take to much intrest but with ten kids you cant really pay much intrest in much that we do.)

52. Discovering that Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune are lesbians and then assuming every other character in an anime is like that (Don't ask, this is again MY mother!)
53. Assuming that helping you with a cosplay could be bonding, then finding out that there is a language barrier (my mother attempted to learn Anime lingo, and totally got confused all while helping build a cosplay with me)
54. trying to deter you from learning Japanese simply because they assume you are going to say something they don't understand behind their backs (Again my mother's assumption, all i managed to do was call her baka, which she is)
55. Getting lost at NDK while looking for me, and finding out they actually do need a badge to get into some parts of the hotel to look for me (Dad, I felt bad for him when we didn't have cell phones)
56. Showing up at NDK on Sunday, getting scared by the people in the fur suits (my mother)

Does my sister count? Considering she's family...

57. Hoping i will take her son to NDK when he's twelve to give him a sense of culture, then when my mother finds out, make sure he's addicted to anime to just annoy the living daylights out of her.
58. Finding out that anime is not all porn and then watching Hellsing at least ten more times than me, managing to think that the guy who voices Alucard actually looks like that (again, don't ask...my sister assumed that after seeing a picture of Crispon Freeman dressed as Alucard)
59. Scaring me each year with announcing she's going to NDK with her husband and 1 year old son (I think she's just trying to scare me)

Funny parts with dad
60. Finding out my dad has watched Hentai and found it in his porn collection (don't ask)
61. Convinces my sister that scaring me out of anime is a good idea (first attempt at showing me Overfiend, I was laughing through it.)
62. Finding out my dad will watch some anime, then find out he's actually sleeping through it

My uncle
63. Finds it funny to threaten to come to NDK and video tape you the entire convention (my uncle is the dean at CU Boulder in the film department)
64. Insists that he will come to NDK each year just to see the costumes (he hasn't shown up yet!)
65. Forget what hotel its at... (done this for three years, you'd think he would remember the hotel?)

Wow... This is ... Well I would be surprised if some one else could come up with stuff that is funnier than this. I really shouldn't laugh, but reading this, I can see mom on her First NDK... oh my... She was afraid the entire con and very stressed, then we got in the car on Sunday and asked me if we were coming back next year then got all excited when I said yes.

That's pretty much it. Think about it he why would he threaten to come to a convention he can't find for three years that hasn't moved

My parents just don't bother. Ever since my mom lady tried to call it a hellish act against the church to watch Vampire Knight or Kuroshitsuji because it was about demons, but she herself watched horrible shows like Charmed and Passions - that soap opera that was about witches and sorcery. It was never brought up again
