No Anime Fans where I live
« on: December 30, 2010, 12:27:12 am »
Seriously, I live at Fox Ridge Farms which is a trailer park out in the middle of nowhere near DIA and there are like NO ANIME fans AT ALL....I'm getting frustrated, because Lee says we can't go to meets and stuff in town because of gas. So I'm considering my options, 1. Second Life, 2. Give up and just watch it alone and get made fun of by my fiance's mother's idiot football loving boyfriend (I HATE FOOTBALL), or 3. Knock on every door in the area and find the anime fans....I'm going nuts.

There has to be a cure to this, I can't post anything in the club house because well....everyone in this place believe its cartoons like Spongbob Crap in Pants and Bugs Bunny, which it isn't. Lee suggested that I walk around the park with a manga in hand and see what happens, then if someone asks where to get it, then I can just tell they are anime fans or something...at least that's the idea...I'm getting tired of the who animation=cartoons mentality of this place....there has to be away to find them...

Well you got a good start here on the ndk fourms. I live thornton, but my reason for not going to meet-ups is because of work. And for me back in high school, i was a founding father and president of my high school anime club, and there really wasn't many members. But when i heard of ndk, i made friends and learned that some of those people live in that same area. Sure different town, or different school, but i knew they were close by. Just don't give up. You'll find someone in your area that loves anime.

Here's a sneaky idea for a clubhouse flyer: Put up a flyer offering carpools to NDK.

You'll be shifting the topic from anime itself to simply a ride to an anime convention. Anyone who's a fan will see "anime convention" and know what it is and find you, while those who don't will just brush it off because it's not an event they're going to.

The catch is if it works, you'll likely end up having the carpool, but I doubt that'll be a major issue. If you find someone, I'm sure you'll have no qualms sharing a car with them.

I can see if that works, but again, it is just that place is a little weird....a couple of the families are a little overly religious and just about freaked out that Lee and I didn't go to church on Sundays when I have to get to work at 4 pm and get off 1 am....

I am thinking that if I do say anything, I was going to post for a carpool to Animeland Wasabi and offer the car up for rides and also include NDK in September.

This may sound easier than it actually is but... how about creating new anime fans there?  You could be the one to get them started, possibly?

That's going to be a lot harder considering that even if we could do that, the club house would make the rules on what and when we can show it. I don't like the idea of omitting any anime simply because some parent gets all mad that we are showing magic or something crazy. I think that just walking around the complex with manga all the time is a lot safer.

Forgot about Animeland Wasabi.

And really, a flyer offering a carpool there shouldn't be offensive, even to the most devout of the resident bible belt.

If it gets torn down, a simple "whaddya got against carpools?" will present a nice awkward pause to the haters. :P

Whoa whoa whoa. Are you saying that no one in within the square 1/4 mile of you shares your extremely niche interests?

That's tough. I remember how much it sucked back before I lived in a neighborhood with a movie car in every driveway.....

This is out by DIA, its basically near Watkins and Bennet, you would think there would be anime fans in this place, but when you walk out in an anime tee-shirt and some idiot says, "aren't you a little old to be wearing a cartoon tee-shirt?" You start to think you're in the middle of some kind of nightmare or a badly written Twilight Zone Episode

Uh, I hate to break it to you.. but those people are EVERYWHERE, not just in small towns or out of the way places.  No matter where you go, you're always going to run into the following people.

A. The "aren't you too old for cartoons" folk

B. The anime is all violent porn cartoons folk

C. The "Oh, you watch that Japanime??" folk

D. The "all anime looks like Sailor Moon, this is Hellsing, but I'm gonna say Sailor Moon" folk.

amongst others.

I know that, but still, it would be nice if there were some people in Fox Ridge Farms that didn't look at us like we're a freak show.

Welp...  Life sucks eggs don't it?  You're ALWAYS gonna have people who look at you like you're a freakshow.  Whether your in a trailer park or a big city.  Why do you think we have anime clubs, meetups, and travel miles to attend conventions?  Because as Boomerjinks pointed out.. it's a niche subculture, we need these things to get together with like minded people.

So true... believe it or not, even in Tokyo the anime fanatics can be frowned upon.

Hey, what's up. Right outta Fort Collins here. :)

And Boomerjinks also pointed out the resident larger mob of anime fans.

I did manage to find fans at my work, but considering that Walmart doesn't carry anime, I don't plan on shopping for cosplay there unless it is on sale....lol
