I was wondering how many people were planning on going to starfest this year? Just out of curiosity...also how does someone find a roommate at starfest? I think this is in the right part of the forum... thanks

I'm hoping to finally make it this year. If I'm really dilligent I'll be premiering my Halo armor there with a friend of mine from Kansas.

I may go this year as The Punisher. Its a fun con,  But its a general sci fi con.

I am sooooo going, with the guests they had listed on last year, plus any extras, I may even have bells on.  As for roommates, no idea, I may already have two full rooms O.o need to talk to everyone.  I don't even have a clue as to what costumes I will wear, but I have a closet full, so I'll live.  And I protest Starfest/Comicfest/Horrorfest being called a 'general sci fi con', I mean, seriously!  Hit a few more panels and see what all they have to show, and definitely hit the comic side if you're a collector, those dealers are AWESOME.

I usually dont go to Starfest cause I am not the bigest Sci-fi fan.  But My gf wants me an my sis to tag along with her this year.
Of course it being an excuse to cosplay~ I am looking forward to it.
We are thinking of either cosplaying the Gorillaz, maybe some members from Family guy, or King of the Hill XD
Or Ami and Wakka from Okami~ but only time will tell n-n

um I'll ask the three w's about Starfest What, when, and where is it? I'm still kinda new to the whole Con scene but would like to make it change. NDK2009 was my first Official Con and I'm hooked, and looking for MOAR!

Well, they don't have much up for information right now at Starland.com. More will be filled out after the New Year. Basic info is that it's on April 15-17th 2011 at the Marriott DTC (same hotel as NDK).

Starfest has a long history. It's first convention, 20th Century Pictures asked them to show a trailer for this new sci-fi film they had coming out soon. It was called "Star Wars". It's also had an anime video room since the early 80's. So feel free to wear your anime costumes and/or t-shirts there. But if you wanted to do some sci-fi/comic costume, but didn't feel comfortable busting it out at NDK, then wear it to Starfest instead.

BTW, a lot of NDK staff also work Starfest. We'll also be there in the dealer's room, if you want your anime fix, complete with pocky & ramune.

I'll be at Starfest again. I go every year with a bunch of people. I plan on bringing back my Briar Rose (a.k.a. Sleeping Beauty) and hopefully will have one of her other dresses for the contest. I love this con and it has a wide variety of likes/intrests. Many Harry Potter fans and Pirates fans run around with the sci-fi people as well.

As far as roomates, I would check the forums on Starland. If you follow the links to the Starfest info page there should be a link to the forums. I can't remember if you have to sign up to view them or not. Some forums are like that, but it would be worth it to get a roomate if you need. Good luck and hope you can come.  ;D

Something you might want to consider is that Starfest has an older demographic than NDK does. Several of the upper staff are grandparents now. And many don't know the 'lingo' prevalent in the anime community (One of their staff heads only recently learned the term 'cosplay'). This is not to degenerate them, but you may have a harder time finding a roommate on the Starfest forum who knows or cares about anime and many not be in the age range you might find acceptable. Just keep that in mind.

I'm debating if should go to this con or wasabi this year. Due to the fact I have 2 vacations avalible this year (work screwed up on my vacation shift for some reason >:(), I will have one for NDK and one for another weekend. NDK is a 100% must-go every year, but this might be the last year I will have 2 vacations on. So I need to figure out if I should do NDK & Wasabi? Or NDK & Starfest? Hard call I would think.

I think I'm going to try and make it. I was reading about it and was going yes yes I HAVE to go. But then again I have that little thing called bills to worry about. I have more money that needs to get paid out than I have Coming in right now. And I do not have a job, I only make ends meet as I have Disability from V.A. Army service. but i do not let my disability get in the way of life, I have learned how to cope with it and still live a normal life.
