There were? I walked through Artist Alley many, many times and saw neither signs nor a voting box. If it was sitting by a table I probably assumed the box was part of that artist's table or something.

I had the same problem. I went through and around Artist's Alley quite a few times, and even asked a couple of staff members where the voting was, but was never able to find it. Maybe it would be good to have the voting boxes somewhere where there is not so much traffic and confusion that can make it hard to find. Also, with no offense intended, unless there is someone assigned to watch the voting box and keep tabs on it, there is no way to truly protect against the box stuffing. Even if it is right near a booth or table, when people are interested in buying your stuff or looking at your artwork, a voting box is not your top priority.

I really liked the idea and would love to participate next year if I can. It is a great idea and with a little tweaking, It will be a wonderful addition to an already great NDK. My biggest concern would probably be the publicity/sharing on info about the contest. I did not even know it was happening until I got to the con and asked a volunteer about the designs on the balcony. I feel advertising the event would be the best option to getting people to participate and to vote.

while im here i think ill post something...i found the ramen move perfectly legal although a bit irritating..for a pilot year i feel things went relatively smoothly...not everyone at the convention knew about it...and thats hard.. i laso have to say i had no trouble finding the voting box and as it has been already beaten to death i wont comment on the voting method..I also understand that it was a relatively last minute idea as well so that creates problems.. my solution to the ticket problem would be to put one in the reg bag and have the voting box at OPS...people always go to ops to ask for directions and stuff so im sure many would likely go there to ask where they post their ballot anyway...by giving the ballot to the person at check in people will know about it too.. i really hope this works and I cant wait for ndk next year

I agree that this is a great idea. It would solve a lot of the issues I've seen recurring comments about in this forum, as well as most of my personal concerns as well.

On another note, I think the rules should have some clarification, like the effects you can and cannot use.

Like fog machines, which I think might be a problem.  For several reasons, like dry ice, and being able to contain the fog, also lights I really liked the Christmas lights, and such, but my friends with FFVII church theme wanted to put strobe lights out, though they decided against it. I just think a general list of things might clear up stuff, and also cause me less hassle next year when my friends want to make a display, when they ask a question that I don't know the answer to.

I didn't vote, and didn't get ramen, but I personal think it's a great idea. However, I think that if it was allowed by the convention it should have been known to be allowed to everyone who participated...which next year it will be known. I think getting people involved as another layer of the contest is a good idea, and personally if I had been handed ramen and told where to go vote, I might have voted (And not necessarily for the ramen place) I do think saying "I'll give you this if you vote for me!" is a bit tacky, but it doesn't sound like that was what was happening. I didn't see the candy out on AA Artist Alley tables as an unfair advantage to that table for voting or for buying merchandise.

I know I factually went to the table where the voting box was, and I completely didn't see it. I think, if there was a separate table for "Official AA information/registration/whatever" it might have worked there (Although even then, if I wasn't involved in AA I may not have gone), but that table didn't register as anything other then another AA member's table.

i found it an interesting idea and i hope to decorate my own next year. i did think that maybe the signs could be better. i did not find the people giving a way ramen to be trying to buy votes, they told me that they hoped i would vote in the contest if i had not and to look around and pic my favorite that was it. i thought it really clever to give out ramen when they had a ramen shop theam. that said i voted for the cat bus beause i loved it. i do think it would have been better to have the voting open longer and also make sure people really new about the contest. i worked one of the artist tables as a helper and lots of people didn't even know it was a contest they thought people were just decorating for the fun of it.
