Most ridiculous objects to get peace-tied at a convention!
« on: September 12, 2010, 07:33:06 pm »
Let me go first!

To be fair to the NDK staff, I was the one who put them up to it, but since I was cosplaying as Ford Prefect from Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, I had my towel peace-tied!

Dude, that's awesome!

I had my crutches peace tied (I was the one with the tie dye crutches,) I did ask for them to do that, as a cautionary deal, and cause the orange looks good.

I was the America on Saturday with the big inflatable bat and that got peacebonded as well.

To be honest, I can understand the bat and weapons in general being peacebonded, but towels, crutches, flag poles, (even the small flags) parasols and other not remotely harmful things that don't have a blade or a trigger got bonded. In my view, it went a bit overboard with the bonding.

Like I said, I asked them to peace-tie my towel.  After all, a towel is the most amazingly useful object in the universe, and among its other uses, you can wet it and use it in hand-to-hand combat!

My roommate, the Joker, had his foot-long, bright orange "Bang Gun" peace-tied. The handle is so tiny that the tie got in the way of the trigger.

you can still hurt someone with a flag pole and an inflatable bat as well. it's not just about blade or trigger objects

Indeed, I almost got beamed in the head with a flagpole myself.  It's more we're making sure that you guys are aware :).

I got my spirt gun bounded (finger). I asked for it because I busted the band and needed to tie it on.
Wow! saying that makes me sound almost human!

But does peace bonding a bat actually prevent anyone from being hurt by it?

No, peace bonding is more a record of a verbal contract that we've talked with you about being aware of your prop and made sure it's suitable for con.

While cosplaying as Yomiko Readman (from Read or Die), I was tempted to go get my sheets of paper peace-bonded.

Ah, that makes sense.  So, it's a figurative bond.

Nobody said anything to me about peace bonding my 5 foot 2 inch big yellow sword. I wonder what the criteria is.

well, you are supposed to do it of your on volition, the peace ties can be pretty hard to see on some of the more intricate/bigger weapons

I had my homemade Ninja Monkey peace bonded last year, and left the tie on so it was still bonded this year.  But I just carried him around sticking out of my messenger bag.  It was pretty funny though because last year when I got him bonded the guy said something to the effect of, "you never know when even a stuffed toy thrown around could hurt someone".  Like I would actually throw my ninja monkey around and get in trouble for throwing stuff?  haha, just odd but fun.

I had my White Rabbit Clock peace bound..... In all fairness I most definitely could have bludgeoned someone over the head with it as it was a real functioning Giant Clock....
