So as it turns out, there's a friendly climbing gym not too far from the Marriott. On Fridays at 8, they're having a student special. If you have a student ID, it's $8 to get in, $3 to rent shoes, $1 to rent a harness.
I am going to talk to them and see if they could expand it to be an NDK special, where if you have an NDK badge, you get the same deal (just for this weekend, though). We'll see what they say (hopefully: Yes of *course*)
In any case, is anyone interested in climbing? It's super-fun, gets you out of conspace for a while and exercising, and it lets you tie up your friends, then drop them ten feet upside down! Twice! And then they thank you for it and buy you beer. Actually, it's a lot like DDR, only you're 50 feet off the ground. This will make more sense when you see how I climb.
Anyway, the downer logistics:
The place is Rock'n and Jam'n at 7390 S. Fraser Street (Unit E), Centennial, CO 80112. There's another one in Thornton. You want this one.
If you haven't been there before, you'll need to sign
the waiver. And, alas, if you're under 18, you'll need to have your parents sign it, too, along with a photocopy of their id (driver's license, passport, etc).
All that said, I think it would be an awesome diversion for an hour or two---solid preparation to dive into total con madness.
If you're interested, say in your post:
- what level routes you climb,
- whether you can belay, (and whether you'd be willing to teach someone)
- whether you can lead, (and whether you'd be willing to teach someone)
- whether you can lead belay (and whether you'd be willing to teach someone)
- whether you have a car, so we can get carpool madness going, if we need to
If you've never climbed before, that's totally cool! Just say you haven't climbed before. And whether you have a car :-p
For me:
- I climb 5.10 to 5.11-
- I can belay
- I can lead
- I can lead belay
- I have a car.
