Pre NDK NYE Dinner meetup 2010
« on: September 05, 2010, 09:38:11 pm »
Last year was the debut of NDK NYE and a now new tradition...the Pre NDK NYE dinner meetup. Last year we took folks to Oshima Ramen for dinner before the event, though it was a small restaurant, we got a good turnout despite the cap that was imposed.

This year will be different. We are still going to hold the dinner 2 hours before NDK NYE and are gathering at the spinning doors near concierge in the hotel as usual and will be leaving once everyone has gathered. And lastly we are going to have a different venue this year since oshima was real small and the cap was imposed thanks to that as I mentioned earlier. Anyone with restaurant suggestions, please post them and I'll make a poll for the selected venues and everyone can vote on them.

Things we still need is carpools. So if you can provide a carpool, that will be well appreciated and please point out how many you can hold in your vehicle.

Pre NDK NYE Dinner

When: Friday December 31st @4pm

Where: Chopsticks chinese bistro (5117 S Yosemite St
Greenwood Village, CO 80111)

If you're still looking for a really good Japanese restaurant I would suggest riding the light rail up to the Colfax at Auraria station and going across the street to Domo. They are regularly awarded for food and decor.

On top of that you can park in the RTD lot and enjoy the train trip up without having to stress with downtown NYE traffic.

You will this year bro. I am hoping I find a better area for our event so there will be no cap being put on this time.

I personally would suggest not going to Domo. The prices are quite high and the kitchen is inflexible when it comes to accomadations.
They also have an 18% gratuity for parties over 6, and although as a server, this is acceptable, I find it better to tip according to service quality, not based on the amount of people. *removed comment about conditions*
...

I also have a bias, since I worked there and they don't treat their employees that well, but if that is the chosen location, I wouldn't mind seeing some old co-workers.

Anyway, back on topic:
Although it's not Japanese cuisine, Chopsticks Chinese Bistro (my current working location xD) is quite literally down the street from the Marriott down on Belleview, so the commute is short. The food is pretty good (in my opinion) but again, it's not Japanese. As for other suggestions, there's a Sushi all-you-can-eat place in Aurora right off Havana, called Sushi Katsu. The price for all you can eat is around 26 and you can (as it says) eat as much as you want. It's a pretty good deal, and unlike the other all you can eat places I've been, Katsu seems to be the freshest. It too isn't far from the hotel and it's not far from my place, so I could probably carpool from dinner.

Just some suggestions. ^^:

Any restaurant has at LEAST %15 added on to parties of six or more, that's going to happen no matter where you go.

While they are expensive I suggested the restaurant as it has a wonderful atmosphere and wonderful food. Why not go all out on a night out on the town for New Years Eve?

As to the accommodations and condiments, he is a classically trained chef from Japan, where it is considered an insult to request these things, basically implying that the chef does not know how to cook. In fact, it's mentioned in the menu that accommodations won't be made..

When mentioning the gratuity, as Rumor said, even places like Denny's will charge you an automatic gratuity on large parties.

I also have a bias, since I worked there and they don't treat their employees that well...

Unfortunately this makes you sound very negatively biased and may invalidate some of your arguments, in my opinion at least.

Heck, probably count me in for this year, and I'll be driving my Expedition so might as well count on me for carpool.

Might I suggest Jett on Colfax & Elm? It's a block away from my apt. so I frequent it often, and I must say the food is AMAZING and the atmosphere is great too. They have very reasonable prices and a full sushi bar. noms!

I would suggest Little India on University, the prices are not that excessive, plus it is a nice place....just a thought, but I think a Pot luck would be a little kinder on ye olde wallet.

I know that quite well. I was just stating for those with allergies. Also, 98% of the time, Gaku-sensei is not in the kitchen.

When mentioning the gratuity, as Rumor said, even places like Denny's will charge you an automatic gratuity on large parties.
Yes, I realize that too. Sometimes they don't in hopes of getting better tips, but yah...Wasn't trying to say that they were the only ones ^^; [I guess I'm mentioning it since I'm a space cadet and forget to charge my tables grat xDDD] Back on topic:

My apologizes if I had come off as a bitter old lady. >////<;
And, depending on the RSVP number, Domo and Katsu actually might not be big enough (and I'm not sure if Domo will be open. Can't remember if it was when I was working there. Perhaps a phone call would need to be placed?)
