Sairehn, there were a lot of inconsistencies in the way the weapons policy was handled last year, which is why I worked with the directors to make the rules more clear cut for this year.  I really am sorry if this puts a damper on your cosplaying plans, but we do have to consider the safety of several thousand people in the hotel, and BB guns are far too similar to real guns to have them on the convention floor.

Thank you.

I got a question and will post pics to get your ok Jer. I got a America cosplay and some pics of him show him with a revolver. I did get one weeks back and it has the orange tip and will use it for pics and cosplay chess. Only thing is the color of the weapon that worries me a bit and only way it can be usable if the hammer is cocked. Anyway I can fix the thing to make it passable?

If I get it peace-bonded this year, will I need to get it peace-bonded next year?

Well since its just zip ties, I believe as long as you don't remove the zip tie, it should be fine for next year.  Then again, it's only a zip tie so it's not all that hard to just stop by again next year for another peacebonding.

You will need to get peacebonding done every year.  We would prefer that you get it peacebonded on-site.

Makes sense, lets you have an idea of what weapons and potentially hazardous items are there.

I'm not an official member of Kan staff (no, really?) but I can offer a bit on insight on the gun thing

If a police officer thinks it's real, they will take preventative measures to ensure the safety of everyone around you. And if a non Kan goer thinks it's real and calls the police the situation will not be pleasant for anyone. The basic rules that will keep you out of trouble are

1.) Would someone I don't know think this is real?
2.) Does this look real from 5 ft? 10ft? 20 ft? 100 ft?

The only way to comply with those rules is by following NDK's weapon policy.

-This is NOT an official rule. Please, read the weapons policy and all other NDK rules-

A general note: please allow NDK staff to be the ones to answer questions here and clarify misinformation. We want to make sure that there is no confusion over this very important policy. Thank you!

Yeah this is just personal insight. My mom has dealt with this problem personally with her students and I've seen it happen multiple times outside of a con setting. I'm not offering official information, as stated in the post. I wouldn't dream of someone taking my word over NDK law.

Its good that you guys are so on this and that the con goers are interested in the rules. But if the staff runs it anything like they ran it last year, even with peace bonding you are going to get attention from the staff so the chances of someone bypassing ops are slim to none. And I hope they are more organized about things, I would hate to embarrass any staff when they demand to see the peace bond and its right there in front of them (yes I've done that before, sad huh?).

It's okay, we're all big kids in Ops  ;D
I'd rather be embarassed by asking to see an already existing peace-bond than let someone get by without the peace-bonding spiel.
