Things to know for AA 2010 and helpful tips
« on: August 11, 2010, 11:44:59 pm »
Alright, everything is basically set up and ready to for Artist Alley this year, on paper at least. ^_^ This is a thread for things you need to know to check in, and helpful tips on packing your stuff, displaying your products, ect.

We have a lot of new artists this year and many coming from other cons, if you have an amazing tip to share please share it here. ^_^

This year we have a grand total of 44 artists and artist groups, this includes guests, two tables, single tables, and half tables. ^_^

To check in, this is what you will need to know:

1) Check in to get you badge for NDK first. *You’ll need it for Artists Alley check in*

2) The table for check in is outside of Artist Alley, it is by the fence looking down the hallway behind the elevators. It’s also an artist table, selling stuff.

3) Either Yuki or Enigma can check you in, but Yuki will unless she's not at the table.

4) There was a lot of business name changes this year between application and contract so you will be asked for both to prevent any confusion.

5) There are stickers this year to put on your badges: for guest, returning, and new to NDK artist, as well as for the table helpers, so you will need to know how many of each you’ll need, we only have a rough estimate.

6) The tables are numbered both to make them easy to find and for the forum contest after the con. See this thread for details on that: http://ndkdenver.org/forum/index.php/topic,4402.0.html

That’s about all you need for check in, you’ll always be able to find either Enigma or Yuki at their table if you need something or help from a staff member. We’ll be making rounds inside AA throughout the con, so if you need water or someone to watch your table while you take a bathroom break we can help you. If you have to leave for more than 10 minutes to go to a panel or something and don’t have someone to watch your table, then it would be best to pack your things up for safety and set up again when you return.

Tips

Extension cords: Many people asked for power outlets this year, I did my best to get everyone close to one but I recommend that if you asked for power you bring an extension cord, you shouldn’t need more than 15 feet at most, close could still mean several feet away, plus there’s the walls.

Don’t leave a mess: If you have food or drink at your table, even just an energy bar or a bottle of water, make sure to clean up any mess you make when you pack up every night, we like the hotel staff and want to make their job as easy as possible, they have a lot of people to clean up after at the con.

Ultimate display: if possible test out how you plan to display stuff to make sure you have everything you need and that it works right before the con, this can help you best maximize your space and see how things will look.

Packing: For packing your goods to sell and your sold goods if they need it, make sure that anything you pack won’t get damaged in transit, it’s always a good idea to double check that everything is packed right. It wouldn’t be good if something got damaged before the con actually started.

Transport: For moving items to and from your car and/or your hotel room, make sure it’s something that can be moved easily and that you won’t hurt yourself lugging it too far, if it’s big and bulky. Also that it can easily fit in the elevators. On Sunday you may want to set up or pack some of your stuff in your car early so that you can avoid the traffic jam in the elevators when attendees are checking out of their rooms.

Feel free to add more tips if you have them. ^_^

It said to bring both application and contact to check in. We sent in the application in the mail, so do we just print out a blank application to show you? And what do you mean by contact?

You don't need to print out and bring anything, I'll just be asking for your name, *the one you signed up under* and your group/business name, we had at least a dozen people change their group/business names from what they put on their application to what they put on their contract.

The schedule said that artist alley opens up at 5 on Friday. Can we check in with you guys way before that, like right after we get our con badges?

What time will you guys check the artists in? And what time will you let us set up? 4:30?

I'll be there around noon but you can check in any time after you have your badge.
