Kareoke
« on: July 17, 2010, 07:08:27 pm »
For the past two NDK's i've wanted to do Kareoke, but I have confidence issues and tend to get nervous. Any tips for what to do? Also, what are the rules for the songs? do they HAVE to be anime-only, is there a time limit, no cussing/some cussing?

Some titles i thought of were Spirit Never dies by Masterplan and Brave by Leona Lewis

mostly there are no anime songs (unless the anime trucker is there he will look on youtube for you.) NDK encourage and prefers songs without cussing and if it does they are usually bleeped out. The time limit is the average length of a song, no 15 minute songs(yes they exist). They usually have a list of the songs they have you can do your own song you just need a CD with the song.

Any more questions? i will be glad to help

Ok cool, that leads to another question. Do the tracks have to be vocal-less?

Yeah I suck at it too... My voice, and speech problem but no one booed me... granted first few seconds of the song I was like WTH??? Right band, CD but wrong song... but I pulled myself through... last few times I didn't even get a chance to go up and sing line too long... But They do have a most of the hits from each year... And sometimes you get the whole crowd singing too ;3

No... which group(or singer) sings it? I wouldn't mind doing "November Rain" by Guns and Roses(no worries, it's not a 15-min song).

Sweet... also, no one ever boos you when you sing karaoke; no one is going to sound like Axl Rose or John Mayer... you're just putting your own spin on a song made famous.

well, there are some people out there who can in fact sing like axl rose and john mayer. been there. one of my friends (merci) sounds almost exactly like axl rose, as a matter of fact. and (i hate having to point this out) i recorded myself singing an evanescence song and then i listened to the original and the recording...... they sounded the same...

That is true... but then again, how often does that happen?

quite often in my area laharl. ^_^ you should hear half the people i know. my friend sara sounds just like lindsey lohan, sable sounds like the phantom of the opera, jen sounds like the one who sing carameldansen (plus she knows the whole song!) and merci can do any kind of screamo along with some other types when he sets himself to it. ^_^

Wow... that is incredible. Have any of your friends thought of going on American Idol?

we have all thought about it, but i know each of us has either tried and failed, or decided that this humiliation of telivised "talent" is not worth it. i know i have had this same battle many times with my own subconcious, but logic prevails. if someone were to be looking for real talent, look in the most unlikely of places. i'll give you bonus points if you can tell me who said that.

Well, in my opinion.. despite there being a "Karaoke Contest", Karaoke should NOT be a talent show.  It shouldn't matter who has the best voice, who can hit the highest note, or who sounds the most like the original singer.  I have no idea how karaoke actually is in Japan, but look at how they protray it in anime and manga.  It's always a group of classmates or friends together to have a good time, some may be excellent, while others could probably raise the dead with their voice *lol* .. look at Yomi in Azumanga Daioh ^_-

So, don't worry about what your voice sounds like!  This isn't American Idol, or even NDK idol! Karaoke shouldn't be about who has the best voice, it should be about getting up their and having fun!
