Conga Line Question?
« on: July 14, 2010, 10:05:52 pm »
I remember that last year some people had problems with the Conga Line, but I don't remember what the verdict was or if there even was one. Is the conga line going to be allowed this year or not? Are there going to be special rules, like it has to be mostly outside or something? Just curious. It was a huge highlight for me and I think for a bunch of others and really is so much fun.

Conga lines are fine so long as they aren't disruptive to traffic or other attendees. Normal noise/music rules still apply. Participation would have to be voluntary (no grabbing passers-by to add them to the line).

Doing it outside would be ideal because then it wouldn't be blocking traffic or causing other problems inside the hallways.

I usually see them later in the evening (11ish) and have never heard the con or hotel staff complain. Definitely would have to agree that outside is the best place if you are going to get one started during the day.

Ha, like they would do that :p, its all for attention grabbing and most people are inside in the main area when it starts. Nothing wrong with that, but I'm thinking until its governed by rules it won't likely ever be outside.

Yes, I have broken up a few conga lines in the past.  The reason was always, as Greg has said, due to traffic issues within the hallways, and sometimes noise.  As long as you keep that in mind, you'll be fine.

I'm going to add that while outside is better, it must not be in the road (or the main drag of the parking lot) or block the exits.  The same concerns exist in terms of safety and fire code.

One thing to which may help everyone, is that if you're in a conga line and people need to get through, let them through.  I mean you can let go of the person in front for someone to pass, or raise your arms, or whatever to let them go and then get back to the conga-ing.  Then again I've never tried and usually stay away from conga lines...haha
