We need more wallscrolls. Maybe some capcom products like street fighter goods and mega man ones. Sakura from street fighter especially.

Eyeshield 21 merch would be awesome, the series just ended in Japan about 6 months ago though... and yah Yugioh 5ds stuff would be cool idk when that series ended but i know the 10th anniversary movie just came out for it, the show i mean the series i thought was older than that.. much of my stuff is dated 95' lol

also one of the most popular shows in Japan that JUST ended but is still thriving is Gintama.. it is probably my FAVE series atm besides Eyeshield

some of the merch in the jump store for gintama features puzzles/fans/pillows you name it.. my best friends bf just moved out of tokyo and remarked that the gintama movie was a box office hit

just an FYI: anything made of fabric is insanely, stupid expensive. t-shirts run around $35, plushies $45, good sized pillows $45, wallscrolls $50.

we can get in hetalia, k-on, and a few other plushies. would you be willing to pay $45 for them? since, most domestic plushies run around $11-15.

here's some series plush that are available:

hakuoki
maid sama (i like this manga series. haven't seen the anime yet, though)
vocaloid
nanoha movie
atom (astro boy)
petit eva (rei and i forget the guy's name who /shinji)
baka and test
strike witches
moogles and chocobos
little busters
haruhi

now keep in mind, most of these are $35-45 for each. would that be too much for plushies straight from japan?

Would there be any way to get the wallscroll prices down a bit?

jello: nope. we'd lose money. as it is, we only get about a 20% discount on those. so, we'll have a yen price of like 4200 yen, and a 20% discount on that, which will cost us wholesale 3300 yen. BUT! as anyone who's ever had anything shipped from japan knows, shipping is INSANELY STUPID KILL YOURSELF EXPENSIVE!!! so, that one wallscroll would end up costing about $12 in shipping charges.

actually, i was double-checking the pre-orders last nite, and plushies come in around $25-30. a little more reasonable, but still a lot more expensive than domestic ones.

Is there any way to get more traditional Japanese items?  Or does this supplier not do that?

http://www.amiami.jp/shop?set=english&vgForm=SearchProducts&vgvar_1_name=e_seriestitle&vgvar_1_value=Wall%20Scroll&vgvar_1_operator=LIKE&sort_1_name=sortkey&sort_1_direction=ASC&results_per_page=20&next=Next&previous=Previous&template=default/product/e_search_results.html

thanks.

looking at the site, the prices range from 1300 yen to 7100 yen ($13-71). the cheaper wallscrolls are size A3, in other words, it's about ledger size (11x17). these are SUBSTANTIALLY smaller than domestic wallscrolls, which are 3'x4' (36x48).

the 2300 yen ($23) wallscrolls are B2 size (19x27); the 5300 yen ($53) is B1 size (27x39). the 7100 yen ($71) is approximately 62x25.

plus, you add in the shipping, which would be about $10 per item if you ship FedEx (SAL is prolly $7, and you'll get it in 3 months, or $13 by EMS).

we can get in the approximate similar size wallscrolls to the domestic ones for about $50, and you won't have to pay for shipping. so, there's the comparison.

it's fine if you don't want to pay that much. that's why i put up the question. these are available to us, but we don't want to invest the money if ppl aren't going to buy them if they're price prohibitive.

Aaaaaaand there's the real answer right there.

If $50 for real japanese wallscrolls is a little much for most people, $75+ probably isn't going to be worth the time. For the shop to buy enough to get a decent price break they're probably going to be stuck with a ton of inventory that they can't sell in a timely manner to make it worth their initial investment.

It sucks for those of us that want cool stuff.
Planned cosplays for 2012:
Big Boss (Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater), Black Waltz 3 (Final Fantasy IX), Nappa (Dragonball Z), The Stig's Spartan cousin (Halo/Top Gear mashup)

indeed, that's it. here's the deal: the most common complaint we hear is that the dealers room has no variety. it's all death note, bleach and naruto, which is a valid point. the reason why dealers started stocking this is because 1) it does sell, and 2) it's available domestically, which is much cheaper than importing it.

the thing is, if you want variety, if you want the newest, latest and greatest series merchandise, you're going to have to pay for it. japanese pricing is very different than american, and their market bears much higher costs. we would love to stock all the crazy merchandise we see. one piece jigsaw puzzle (funny joke in that) - sure! but, what you pay $20 for it? gintama beach towels, excellent! except they cost $50. k-on t-shirts, no question there. but, they're $35.

that's the crux of it: would you pay for the selection and the variety? we would gladly stock all that stuff if we thought we could move it. but, obviously, since i'm asking, we're not sure, and don't want to gamble. cos, there are no dealers, unless they're selling bootlegs, including retailers, that can sell merchandise at the rates you are used to with domestic merchandise. this is why there's been less and less selection in dealers rooms the last couple years.
