Except all that gain has given me some stretch marks that I absolutely hate! I don't know if I should keep lifting, or just amp up my cardio :[ Any ideas?

go slower? actually, there's not much you can do about that. try rubbing the stretch marks with vitamin E. unfortunately, it's just the risk you run.

You arent gonna tone much just doing cardio... It sounds like you wanna tone and not bulk..i have a hard time with this but what you need to be doing is high reps at low weights..you arent going to get the same muscle ache neccesarily but it refines the muscle rather than making it bigger :) im at total weight lifting person since im naturally built tankish i have to really watch how much I lift cuz I blow up like a balloon

oh yah, and try doing yoga, or some other type of stretching, isometric (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isometric_exercise) exercising, on top of weight lifting. adding flexibility and lengthening the muscles are good =)

I've been on a strict diet for a while, but I cheat considerably. I've only myself to blame for my current weight (part of which I desperately hope is muscle), and there's no chance I can make it anywhere from one hundred forty-five pounds to one hundred thirty pounds by September tenth.

But damn it, I'm gonna try. I got me a Wii, a forest to walk in, and an elliptical trainer, and I've been ordered to work out an hour every day, which I'm trying to work up to. I've done okay under "lose weight for the convention" pressure before, so I can try again. I've cleared out a lot of tempting "forbidden" foods, so that's a good start.

So just hang in there, everyone. I'm dangling next to ya, cheering you on.

Anyway, here's a recipe for a pottage I eat virtually every night, and before I went downhill, it helped me lose a lotta weight. It's tasty and filling; I hope it helps someone here.

One bowl of steamed brown rice, sized to appetite or preference.

One measuring cup of soup, seasoned to preference (not broth, soup; I use carrot or tomato).

Meat in small pieces (I've used fish, beef, chicken, pork, and cut-up hot dogs in a pinch), amount added to taste.

Bacon pieces added to taste (as in real bacon, not Bac-O-Bits or something)

Shredded cheese in your favorite flavor.

One serving corn chips as a side.

Basically mix it all together but for the chips, top liberally with cheese, grab the non-sugary beverage of choice and enjoy.

From the three responses that I got, I have set a date.

Saturday @ Skate City (Westminster) From 2-4 (or -6 if you're ambitious like me)

AND I HAVE A HUGE SUGGESTION!

This seems to be an ultra popular thing where everyone has something to say. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO why don't we make multiple topics? Like one for foods/recipies, another for workout/stretching ideas, another for dieting/accountability (or that one can have it's own), and one for meet ups. And, if we want, we could have mini-mods. ^^ ((Oh how that makes me giggle!))

This way, people's suggestions, cries for help, and date/data tracking isn't lost in all the chaos.

theMulti-Facets: one thing i've learned is you can't be so hard on yourself. strict diets are impossible to maintain, even for a person with iron will. the human body just doesn't work that way. you set yourself up for failure if you think like that.

that's why i don't like the "accountability" thing. if you fail to meet your set goal, you beat yourself up over it, instead of celebrating what you did accomplish. so, you mayn't have lost the weight you wanted, but look, you're physically stronger, and in better health than you were when you started. isn't that something worth getting excited over?

and, i'm jelus of your trees. you want a good workout? go climb one =) i love climbing trees.

About a multi thread....I will talk to the ndk mods..my guess is that we should stay here..or we could use another host to branch out in..I will see what I can do..

At mitsu... The accountability I would like to see with this group is more or less a check in.. We are here to encourage each other.. Its not a military run thing... However if you dont want to do anything like that thats fine...

Personal update-I have discovered push mowing is good exercise.. Also I have gotten back to my push up sit up routine (100 each every day) to help with the bulking up untill I have time to go to the gym..technically i started about two weeks ago, and I allready feel better in terms of the ammount of energy I have :)  now to fix my sleep pattern

I've been reading this thread and I absolutely love it. :] Good luck to all of you!

As for me, I'm becoming a slight health nut. I'm at 130lbs and I'm 5'7''. I'm not really trying to lose fat weight or gain muscle weight, but whichever direction it goes in I'd be happy. I really want more definition, and I've been lifting like crazy.

Except all that gain has given me some stretch marks that I absolutely hate! I don't know if I should keep lifting, or just amp up my cardio :[ Any ideas?

Sound like you want what i am going for.   I would suggest Yoga as Rini suggested and also a Plyometrics routine.   These exercises are based around your core muscle groups and promote toning and flexibility.

I UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING!

If I'm not hard on myself, though, I get lax, like I have. So maybe I should strike a balance?

And ahhhhh, I haven't climbed a tree in ages! So many around here got their lower limbs cut 'cause of fire hazards. Maybe there's one that's still intact, though. Thanks!

Hmmm, looks like my post from the phone didn't go through yesterday. Oh well.

I weighed myself yesterday morning. 268. That's 7lbs away from the heaviest I have ever been, and that was 15 years ago. Part of that may be water retention since I'm drinking so much that I'm expecting it to come out my ears, but it's still depressing.

I got up 30 minutes early and went nuts with some crunches, push-ups and Wii Boxing. I'm going to work my way up to getting up an hour and a half early to hit the fitness room in my complex.

Anybody in the Parker area that would like to come be my workout partner?

Gaara-Spike: If you're looking to tone instead of bulking up change your weight routine to low weight high reps. Take about 1/2-2/3 of your max weight and do as many reps as you can.

Oh no! ^^ Nothing like that! I hate (most) military type things, as it were. I was just saying that we have something every often or so that people can do together. And if people want to suggest something that they want to do with people, they can post it there. That kind of structure REALLY helped me through all my track seasons.

The suggestion was more so everyone could have a chance to be heard.

@Gaara-Spike: I know this might sound sort of girlish, but if you put shea-butter type of lotion on the stretch marks, they go away or at least fade. Scar removal cream works, too.

I just weighed myself on my wii fit and found that I had gone from 230 to 218.5. The last time I weighed myself I had gone to the doctors and that was about 2-3months ago. Hurray! and it is at night so I am going to weigh myself tomorrow without anything in me. Woot!! *does a jig*

Lol I am a girl, so girly things are ok with me. I know it's kind of weird that a girl lifts weights for fun, but I do.
I've been rubbing Mederma on my thighs and lower abs like crazy. The new red ones are already fading, but I have a HUGE tear in the middle layer of my skin on my left thigh. It's healed though, so it's silver instead of red. :[ I don't think I can get rid of it because it's completely scarred over.

I haven't lifted this week yet either, because I really freaked out about those stretch marks, and sadly I lost a pound!! I think it's my muscle getting little again, grr, but hopefully I'll hit the gym tomorrow with a friend and focus on arm and core stuff, to give the skin on my legs a chance to get un-ugly!

Hehe, I like to lift for fun as well. ^^ You're not alone. Though, for that huge tear uses that scar removal. It's suppose to take away those deep ones. And I actually didn't know Mederma worked O.o

Ugh, sore this morning. I tried doing more crunches but I only made it to 3 before I thought my abs were going to explode. Just got some light cardio in this morning. Crap, it's gonna take longer to get used to this than I thought. I'm not as young as I used to be T_T

I am taking a different approach to my daily routine too. I moved my stool at work away from where I can sit on it and I'm wearing ankle weights to help burn more calories while I walk around. The ankle weights are adjustable, so I've only got 2/3 the weight in them to get used to them.

Again, is there anyone in the Parker that could use a workout partner? I have a state of the art fitness center at my complex that I can use for free.

ronin: you should take at least 24 hours off if your muscles are sore, or at least find another set of muscles to work out. what happens, besides the lactic acid build up, is your muscles get microscopic tears in them. as those tears heal, more muscle is built up on them. that's how you build/gain muscle. so, you need to give yourself time to heal or you won't actually build muscle as fast.

i alternate between upper and lower body, every other day (more or less).
