My goal(kinda for NDK) has been 250, and because of the water, I've been able to reach it... so every pound lost after is gravy.

As long as you're smart about what you put in there, bento are a GREAT way to get portion and a variety of food! For example, here's a lunch I made
http://i586.photobucket.com/albums/ss309/Tsubaki25/Bento%20and%20Food/002.jpg

So what's in there?

3 Mini cocktail franks ( 95% fat free)
half a one egg tamagoyaki (rolled egg omelette)
spinach that a blanched, seasoned with a tiny bit of seasame oil and red pepper flake
stewed peppers
cherry tomatos
3 mini onigiri (riceballs) without filling
slice apricot and a few blueberries.

It's both a small AND variety filled meal!!

If I can find a good bento box, I'll definitely do that.

A question for the local folk, how long does it take to get used to the altitude here in Denver?  I find myself breathing heavier than I am used to when running or playing football/soccer.

About 6 months really. You'll feel better in a few weeks but it really takes several months before you get acclimated to the dry, thin air.

A nice side effect of getting used to the altitude is that when you visit friends back in lower altitudes you feel like Superman, and if you're old enough to drink, you can drink everyone under the table down there even if you're normally a lightweight

Planned cosplays for 2012:
Big Boss (Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater), Black Waltz 3 (Final Fantasy IX), Nappa (Dragonball Z), The Stig's Spartan cousin (Halo/Top Gear mashup)

Thanks for the info!  I got used to a very dry winter/spring and extremely humid/muggy summer and fall, so I guess I just need to get acclimated to the altitude.

I would not know anything about the drinking though, haha

Im from florida, and have lived in CO for two years.. and i totally agree with ronin.. it takes a loonnnggg time.. but the harder you are on yourself at first.. the better off you are.. i mean don't kill yourself... but pushing to an extent will give you lets sayyyy a training bonus?

If all you want to do is lose weight, then eating less is the way to go, you don't need to do anything more than that.  After moving from a physical job to a desk job I gained like 40 lbs in a year, and upon realizing what was happening to me I decided to cut 1 meal out of the day.  I lost 30 lbs within about 6 months.  No fancy diet plans required, continue eating what you normally do but just 33% less of it.  This takes a little bit of willpower though.  And no cheating by snacking more.

I have found that if I am doing something I am interested in (like playing an addictive video game or solving an interesting problem at work) I lose track of time and am likely to not eat if there is no food around.  The trick is to not HAVE food around!  If you bring a whole family sized bag of chips with you when you sit down for an anime marathon session they will be gone before you know it.  So instead pour a little into a bowl and take that, putting the bag back on the top shelf of the pantry.  I personally don't feel like getting up to get it, so I don't eat and before I know it I forget I am hungry!

Watch what you drink too, I found that most of my calories came from drinking and not eating.  I used to drink 6 cans of soda a day, and 1 can was about 150 calories, so that's 900 calories from drinking soda alone.  Cutting out the soda greatly increased my rate of weight loss.  If you NEED some carbonated drink, get some carbonated mineral water and some syrup and mix em up.  Yeah it aint a Coke, but when you are checking out your new hot bod in the mirror in a year you will be glad about that!  You don't have to cut it entirely either, I still drink about 1 can every 2 days or so.

I am no dietitian or anything like that and am just pointing out what worked for me (WITHOUT consulting a dietitian either, just using some common sense!).  I will say though that there are no shortcuts, no easy ways out.  There are a few methods that I am sure will make you lose weight real fast, but the price you pay for that aint worth it.

Remember stay active too that a big thing... With me I ride my bike to work and everywhere well One I don't have a DL or car anymore... But it's still keeps me fit... Also Set goals if you can't get up this one hill or do it in a certain amount of time push yourself SLOWLY... go in two week I want to be able to ride up that hill none stop or Cut that 1hour 20 min bike ride down to 1hour 15min and set the goals and keep setting realistic goals... Also if the place offer tea go for that because a 8oz glass of tea has 5 calories compared to the 150 cal of 12oz pop I'm currently drinking... also figure out what amount of cal you need to maintain lose weight or for me gain weight... I have to take in 3000 calories a day just resting.... but riding my bike and working out I need to take in 5000 calories... which I found extremely hard to do... working out I actually lose weight due to lack of "fuel" I need to build the muscles which causes pains

Well, gained a little weight from con, but considering it was a weekend to enjoy, I could go off the wagon a little. But, my goal right now is to hit 230 by ndk nye, so I've got 23 pounds to lose... definitely keep up the weight lifting(I made it to 3 sets at 8 reps, and I'm gonna switch off on some things, like 2 sets of bicep curls and 2 sets of upwards benchpress or no bar chin ups(because it looks like I'm doing chin-ups with no bar) and just keep that up every other week).
Strike me down, and I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine

My goal is 130 so I only have to lose 20 pounds, I already exercise everyday and don't drink soda but even so I don't lose weight very easily >_<; It was my goal last year too and yeah....

So I haven't posted here in awhile, but whatever! I did start working out a little bit before I left home. Now I'm at college and have been for nearly a month now. I try to go to the gym Monday-Friday, I don't usually make it on the weekends, mostly probably due to personal laziness. But I drink almost only water now. I occasionally have juice or something. I was at about 128 on the scale in the locker room when I got here and the last two times I've weighed myself I was down to about 125. My goal is 120 for now. I'll re-evaluate whether I think I need to lose more than that or just maintain it once I get there.

Spooky, that must be really discouraging. I know I haven't been very happy that the weight isn't just melting off, but I think that's probably a good thing. I think generally if you lose weight slower than it's more likely to stay off, yeah? Rather than if I just severely cut my calories and kept up the exercise. Plus this way I can still eat the not so healthy college food I enjoy. Uh, but, how long have you been working out? Because if it's been several months and your routine has been rather static you might considering adding more to it 'cause you might have plateaued in terms of weight loss.

Im happy to have you on the team spooky!!! dont give up.. trust me on this ive started and stopped and even now i struggle.. im no baywatch XD..I used to train a lot for athletics so i know quite a bit, and if I dont know, I know people who do so i just try to pass on the knowledge.. and choose to or to not implement everything i know...

and Mia! Good work there.. (i say mia instead of pig cuz pig sounds bad) I agree with what you say based on personal experience.. cutting calories works but in the long run when you start dieting less..the weight comes back.. losing it slowly by increasing your calorie use instead is by far the longer lasting method...

as for myself.. i actually lost weight at con.. but it was water weight.. and due to my lack of nomage at con.. its paying me back in full interms of body storing fat and weight gain...so my parting words for you guys are

PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO LOSE WEIGHT BY NOT EATING MUCH!!!! stick to healthy and regular meals watching the simple carbs and sugars...if you neglect eating you will regret it

I've been consistently working out since I started college a few years ago, 30 minute cardio circuit training 3 times a week and walking for an hour on the other 4 days....in the summer at least, it's hard to get out in the winter so I play a lot of DDR to make sure I get 10,000 steps a day or so

I didn't lose or gain at the con for once

Eating less doesn't work for me either the weight comes back once I start eating regularly again plus I get craving by doing so....not sure why, lacking nutrients maybe?

You actually can get addicted to certain foodstuffs...sugar is a good example...to drop back on sugar it takes extreme determination...it takes 30 days to change your taste buds...some say that its best to go cold turkey on the sugar, i like the weaning approach better..its worked for me,, this is when you start substituting processed sugars (cakes donuts candy) for natural sugars found in fruits.. berries melons apples.. not all at once but maybe once a day or so.. then back off the processed more until excluding the occasional exception... you are eating more natural sugars.. then you can start watching how much natural sugar you go for....

some cravings are quite possibly linked to certain vitamin depletion, such as red meats when you have low iron...A multi vitamin can help these if you feel you are eating too much over all

horray for DDR and exercise!!! if you are looking to maximize your work outs, and exercise physiologist told me the best way to do this is by varying your intensity and patterning of your cardio.. I think I made a note of this in one of the first few pages of the forum and did it in detail...

Well maybe I didn't...so heres the scoop...-takes a deep breath- the goal when exercising should be increasing your metabolism.. basically how much oxygen your body is consuming per breath...the higher this is the more calories you are actively burning..weird huh?
The best way to do thi sis by varying the cardio side of your exercise.. if you do cardio say 3 to four times a week..
one of those needs to be intervals and I mean.. HARD intervals..the high part needs to be so high you think your gonna die and the low part needs to be so easy itll make you think you can do the high part again... the end goal for this particular exercise is to make sure that you can do the intense part for a good 30 mins...
one day also has to be a mid/high intensity day with no breaks.. this is gonna mirror more of your typical morning run sorta thing intensity should be so that you cant talk while exercising, but your not like hyperventilating
another day should be low intensity...this is more of an easy jog or equivalent that you feel too an extent that you can keep it up all day
I like to say the last day if there is one should be a chefs choice
but yah.. this regiment strengthens the heart and will maximize your work out...

also in the winter...stairs are very useful :)
