Concerning panels and food...
« on: April 02, 2010, 11:31:49 pm »
Well, we all know that Bob hosts a cooking panel for NDK, however I was wondering..

Are other panels concerning food allowed?  Or are they against the rules?

I'm curious because lately I've been developing a love for creating Dekoben ( Decoration Bento) and would like to perhaps one day in the future host a panel on it.

Food is allowed on a case-by-case basis. I wouldn't expect bentos to be problematic in this regard given the nature of the food.

The Marriott won't allow any cooking in the panel rooms because they're potential (if unlikely) fire hazards, however, so any items that would need to be cooked would have to be cooked in advance. Additionally, con policy against bladed weapons would still stand so you couldn't bring any knives to the panel. That would pretty much limit it to assembly of the finished product.

And finally, our contract with the hotel prohibits us charging for food. If there's any food that you'd like to share with the panel attendees, it must be provided gratis. (The con also could not reimburse you for this expense for that same reason.)

Thank you for the fast response Greg.

Well taking that, I'll mull around with some ideas for the future.

Well if you do decide to run this panel I hope I'm in attendance at the con when you do!  I'd be interested in a Bento Panel.  A friend bot me a bento box and packing it with food never seems to work well.
