Short stories?
« on: March 14, 2010, 01:01:26 am »
Here's a strange question. Would you be interested in buying original short story books? A friend and I have been thinking about putting together some short stories and selling them at the conventions we manage to get a table at. Each book will be written by the both of us and illustrated by myself.

We would also be willing to do some custom short stories or children books. Below are the categories of things we are willing to write, and books that we want to be selling. Ratings will vary.

Yaoi - Varies in rating. Anything explicit will require ID to purchase.
Yuri - Varies in rating. Anything explicit will require ID to purchase.
Hentai - ... ID is a must. XD
General - Just any kind of story, pretty much for all ages.
Children Books - Highly illustrated

Sounds very interesting. I actually wanted 2 do this as well. But I'd definitely purchase the general stories :D

I personally wouldn't, buuut that's because I enjoy writing my own stories. I bet there are quite a few people out there who don't write (or just love to read) and would be interested in this kinda thing. n--n

It sounds intriguing. Personally, I am a huge fan of original illustrated stories. I always love seeing what other people come up with! They would certainly do best illustrated, though--people like to have an idea of what they're buying, and a picture is worth a thousand words. :)

Regarding yaoi, yuri, and hentai, you need to be aware of a new policy in the NDK AA if you don't already know. The rule is that anything explicit is absolutely prohibited from entering the AA. So if you have anything that could only be sold to 18+ audiences, you may not even bring it with you. Anything that is 13+ you need to offer warnings to anyone appearing younger than thirteen, but you don't need to card anyone. If you have any more questions about the 18+ rule, you can read about it here or, if particulars are bothering you, just ask. I just wanted to clear that up, in case NDK is the predominant con you'd be writing these for. Wouldn't want you to make tons of stuff you can't even bring!

Anyway, sounds nifty! If you have any samples or teasers, they'd be fun to see.  ;)

Thank you very much for the rules on the NDK, but I actually don't have a table there this year. All books will be illustrated, but not really comic or manga style. I can never seem to put those together just right.

Well, for future reference then--because I don't expect those rules to be changing anytime soon. :) Kinda bummed you don't have a table this year, because I think your little creations are so cute! But I hope you'll be trying again for next year, and if so--bring your books. I can't say if they'd be popular or not, but I think it's a neat idea. Especially if it's not classic manga style, but that's just me :B

i really like the idea of illustrated children's books, especially of folklore and/or mythology. if you can find a way to print and bind it well, i'd buy them in a new york second.

you've got such great artwork, i think that it could work really well. instead of artists alley, however, how about the cherry blossom festival, if you go the route of japanese folklore/mythology. they're accepting vendors now.
