Pass for Gaming?
« on: March 12, 2010, 10:06:52 am »
I doubt so, but my friend wants to come Sunday, and he isn't fully into anime, but he wants to come hang with us, play some gaming tournaments, etc. and we're wondering if he'd need a pass for it... :-\

If he only wants to walk around the hallways and go into the VGR, then a badge isn't strictly necessary. If he wants to go into the dealers room, artists alley, main events, or any panel room at any point, however, he'll need to purchase a day pass.

And of course, if he plans on experiencing the fun camaraderie of the con, we would certainly appreciate him showing support by purchasing a badge anyway!

Ok , I don’t mean to impose on what the staff say, or make assumptions about the policy.

But I honestly do not see this as fair. From what I know ( May be wrong)  NDK reserves the entire hotel of the Marriot for NDK weekend; and part of what I think this can include is the ability to restrict even the hallways to people who have con passes or are staying in the hotel.

I consider the VGR to be one of the main events type rooms , by official title or not. I have seen people and myself wait to get into the VGR rooms which are so full they don’t have standing room in them.

So how is it fair that someone who doesn’t pay for pass can have access to the videogame room where people who pay for passes have to wait to get into them, at times. I particularly don’t see it as fair if someone doesn’t pay for a pass is allowed to play in the video game tournaments.

Well VGR are licensed by companies that are not part of NDK... NDK doesn't own the licenses or the Property. If they did it where only you can go into VGR if you have a badge would cause legal issues... NDK could be sued/fined and the Board of directors put in Jail... Ever seen the FBI warning at the being of the movies. Now Let say EA Games Sponsored NDK and Set up a Game Room then Yeah it could be where only if you Have a Badge you can enter.. But that is because EA is giving permission to NDK.. Trust me it would cause allot of problems if NDK made it where VGR was only available to those who have badges... We don't want NDK to be Shut down or even getting in trouble for that

It's not a matter of fairness, Osias. Due to copyright law and certain policies, NDK does not enforce the badge policy on certain areas of the convention. However, as those areas remain a (very popular) part within the convention, we do greatly appreciate fans' support in purchasing badges. Purchasing a badge before utilizing such areas keeps us informed as the popularity of such areas and helps us know how many rooms to use when we designate those areas for con purposes.

Because the question has been answered--and because the potential for misinformation spreading as a result of this topic--I'm locking the thread.
