Anime Feud?
« on: February 13, 2010, 09:11:02 pm »
So I've got my proposal written up and am just waiting for "those who rule the con" to start accepting panel proposals for NDK2010.  While I wait I thought I'd post something on the forum to get a general consensus on the idea.

I've been thinking of running an Anime game panel/event/however it is categorized/ based off the old TV show Family Feud.  Get a few teams of 4 to face off against each other by trying to guess what 100 con goers answered to fun and crazy anime and other Japan and con-ness questions.

Just interested in hearing what other people outside my circle of friends think of the idea and any suggestions/tips on what to do.  I got the list of questions, know how to poll a 100 con goers, setting up the digital board and sounds. The only things I haven't been able to work out is how to get the contestants and what to do for prizes.  A game show needs prizes, but I'm poor.

I got a feeling a lot of Pocky will be involved since it is fairly cheap...

That is correct this was run by one of our staff members a few year ago.   It was retired by him in favor of some newer ideas but seeing it again could be allot of fun.   When he ran it though it was more Anime Club Feud.  Anime Clubs would compete against each other.

Yes we ran it for 3 years in a row and decided to retire it because we had trouble coming up with new survey questions actually.  The first year it was anime clubs but the last 2 years we just assembled teams from the audience.  If somebody else wants to take it up again please feel free.

Getting contestants it as easy as just picking random people from those who show up.  Or if you want something more formal you could do a sign up and require teams to be built prior to con.  The only problem with that is things can happen and people may not show or only one person that team may show.  As for the prize question.  There are lots of things you could do a on a budget pretty cheap.  You could print up small certificates have them lamented and the winners get these.  Long ago that is what was given to winners for the Cosplay at NDK and they were very nice looking and done homemade.  I think most people would just love the chance to get up and play the game prize or no prize.

LOL  well I currently have over 100 possible questions so I think I have enough to get through this year... and a few more if I decide I like running Game Events.

I wouldn't ask anyone to pay for playing (As long as no one asks for cash prizes ^_~)

Getting contestants it as easy as just picking random people from those who show up.
Picking audience members who show up.. so simple... so easy... so worry free.
I Like It!

Good to know there are people who would want to play just to play.  (I'm running it because I keep hearing about how great the games <Anime Jeopardy and You Don't Know Jack about Anime> were at NDK but the two times I've attended there hasn't been any.)  I'm excited to try my hand at picking up the torch for an Anime Feud game!

I was planning on making certificates for the winners and awarding winners and hopefully others with Pocky, but my friend keeps getting on me about not having prizes.  So I was getting worried how others would view there not being formal awards or prizes.  I want to make this very much audience participation, but when I mentioned it to her she was like you can't to that unless you're going to award all the audience people with prizes *Sweatdrops*

Thanks for letting me know prizes don't mean as much as making it fun for everyone!

We still do that actually, but we have prizes and trophies now as well. ^__^

This does sound like a lot of fun. I never got to see any of the games.

Without commenting on the activity itself (I won't comment on individual activity ideas publicly for various reasons), here are some answers regarding prizes for activities in general:

I wouldn't ask anyone to pay for playing

NDK doesn't charge for activities, except when there's a nominal materials fee. An NDK badge grants attendees the ability to participate in any NDK activity at no extra charge.

We don't do cash prizes.

So I was getting worried how others would view there not being formal awards or prizes.

People come to NDK to have fun, not to win prizes. Prizes can be a nice perk, but they're by no means necessary.

HA!  I accept your challenge!  (If i get to run event)

A team of all Links would be awesome ^_^

And very good then.. Award Certificates it is for the Lucky winners!  And Pocky ^_~   Thanks everyone for the elegant and simple and affordable solution!  I really hope it turns out half as fun as I imagine it will be ^_^

Anyone know when proposals are going to start being accepted and confirmed?  I really want to know that I am going to be running the game before I put money into “buzzers”.    Was actually thinking of getting those battery operated touch lights... or bells... or squeaky (not used) plush dog toys...

I think people should just make teams out in the audience or the panel runners should have audience members wishing to participate raise their hands or something and pick teams.

I say make a signup list and select people by random choice from the list. it's not hard to do.
