D&D weekly group
« on: February 07, 2010, 06:26:11 pm »
I was wondering if any one here plays D&D?? Also I would like to try to get a weekly group going... Pretty much 4-7 other people can join in  on this(due to lack of space and get too complicated and long with more players). We could either meet at my place or if someone else has more room or wants to host it that is fine too.

We need to decide what edition to do...
2nd edition  (I have some experience with)
3.5 (I have the most experience with)
4gen (I have very little experience with)

Pretty much every person will need a set of Dice
1D4
4d6
1d8
2d10
1d12
1d20

If you have a players hand book for the edition we choose to play
Pencil and Paper
Notecard(must for spell casters to have spells data written on)
and thinking caps

Also I would like people that can come on the day we set for it every week...
Secondly I won't have bickering or poor sportmans in the group.. I.E. you get a crappy roll and it screws up your character Then you complain about it and go how unfair or screwed up it is... I don't let these types of players in my D&D groups... creates unwanted drama and delays the game...

Also we need to decide who wants to be a DM...

*Edited*
Date: First Session March 22, 2010 *gives me Time to setup for the first couple of sessions and making the world*
Next Session March 29th, 2010
Time: 7pm-11pm  moved up to allow Jimthecatus time to come
Place: Nogard's Cave(PM me for address)

Players
Nogardous-DM(controller of NPC, Monsters, and Environment...)
Jimthecatus(Human Mage{Transmutation, Deny Enchantment and Illusion})
Schmoopy(Elven Ranger)
Skrae(Elven Cleric)
Starstreaker(via Webcam, Human Monk)
Caleb(Warforged Fighter)
Nikki (Dwarven Barbarian)
Ryan(undecided)
*Edited 2/20/2010*

Rolling Stats
5d6 drop lowest 2
roll 3 sets of 6... Choose one of the set of 6.... Allocate how you want to...

Feats(standard unless class or race added I.E. Warforged feats)
extra feat I give for making a character... DM treat ^^;

Races
Human, Elf, Halfings, Half-Elves, Half-Orcs, Drawf, Hadozee(Stormwrack), Warforged(Races of Eberron), Dragonsblood/Dragonborn(Races of the Dragon), Catfolk(Races of the Wild)

Classes
Rogue, Bard, Wizard, barbarian, Ranger, Fighter, Paladin, Sorcerer, monk, cleric, Druid, swashbuckler(complete warrior), Scouts(complete Adventures), Warmage(complete Arcane), Warlock(complete Arcane), Knight(Players Handbook II)

Prestige classes
All allowed but need to find a mentor to teach you that prestige before you can take a level in it...
Example: Assassins, Shadow-Dancer, Blade-singers, sword-dancer, Acrobat thief, Duelist, Master of Mask, Cloaked Dancer, Battle trickers COULD PROBABLY found at a theifs guild
While Archmage, Loremaster, Mystic Theurge, Red Wizard, Blood Magus COULD PROBABLY found at a mage guild

Standard Players Handbook equipment with
Warfan, Warforged components, and Items made out of exotic materials(i.e Mithril, Chitin)

Through advanturing your characters can become vampires or Lycanthorpe if he/she is bitten by one during battle...
Lycanthorpe type depends of what type you where bitten(I.E. Werewolf=Werewolf, Wererat=Wererat)

Alignment... Most importantly You can't have a mixture of evil characters and Good characters... It just won't work out in the end

oh man I'm so out of practice, I haven't played for years...I'm supposed to relearn how to play with some friends but they can't seem to get stable enough in their work schedules to have a weekly game..I have dice but no tangible books (got some 3.5 pdfs though) and I live down in the Springs and don't have a car.... but maybe!
it might be fun to play with people I don't know haha. I will think about it if we can get some more players and such. Great idea though!

It's been a long time since I've done D&D proper (My weekend RP group likes to stick to GURPS and modern/scifi/occult campaigns.) But that said, if this landed on a weekday night (sadly not an easy time for most people) I might be in if it isn't too far away.

As for resources dice are no problem (I have plenty XD ) and neither are manuals as long as you don't play second (I have the PHB, DMG, MM, and FRG from 3, 3.5, and 4 as well as a few source books for 3/3.5.) Admittedly though I've only gotten to play one game in 4th so I'm not very familiar with it; but there's some parts about it that I definitely like.

For me the deciding factors would be group demographics (age mostly), campaign type/focus, day of the week (I'm unavailable Thurs, Fri, and Sat,) and driving distance. As for the second one it probably would be best if the final DM did a one-off session once so that we could all get a feel for how things are going to work (campaign, group dynamics, etc) before everyone dove headlong into a commitment no one's going to enjoy.

I would love to join in, but I live down in Durango, so, sadly, I could not play unless I joined via web cam or something like. I have plenty of 3.5 source books, but have not done anything with 2.0 4.0. My only time spent with 2.0 is HackMaster, and there are some differences between the two I think.

For times, I have an Exalted Game I am the Storyteller for every other Sunday, but I should be able to find time any other day.

Well I do have internet... no webcam though... I think we could make it work with you star... Far as 3.5 my old group called me the human rule book... As they start argueing I would either but in and tell them they standing on the rules and/or be flipping right to it... I read 3.5 players handbook 5 times all the way from cover to cover... and each section several times over...

Well if it at my place I live pretty much Alameda and Kipling in Lakewood next to Bel Mar shopping center... Far as Age goes I'm 25... DM I'm still deciding if I want to or not... If I do then I will ask my old DM for a copy of some of his campaign material... I was thinking probably try to do it on a weekend but weekday would work for me too...

PSN:  Skrae     3DS:  3308-4741-5349     Steam:  Skrae (the one with The Undertaker picture)

I can also help to identify bootlegs, if you have a questionable item, send me a message and some pictures if you can and I'll get back to you when I can.

Okay It looks like for now a group of about 3 or 4... We can always have other join in... Just be advised if you join later after we start running it means the DM gets to through you in where, how and when.... I.E. Being  tortured by a band of Orcs... or even Just fell from some high place...

I will be the DM for the first few sessions... I will work on material and building the first campaigns.

Anything you need help with let me know. I have a fair amount of 3.5 books at my disposal. Well, some are Sixwing's, but they all live on the same shelf, so they are still at my disposal.

Thanks Nogardous. I would enjoy playing, and will either get a web cam for my PC, or just steal Sixwing's MacBook that has a build in webcam. Cheating is no fun, and ruins the enjoyment of the game. What fun is it if you are always awesome. The PC is more interesting if they can also be hurt/killed.

Are there any books that are forbidden to use? And, I know you are still setting up the world, but do you know if this will be starting at first level, or higher?

Okay some quick Rules and quirks about my world
1. no Kenders... they all be wiped out ages ago(a thing I picked up from my old DM's)
2. Race Restrictions if you want to be a Catfolk, Dragon Blood/Dragonborn, Warforged, Hadozee Even Dwarf you Have to roll for it.
3. Starting out at 1st Level...
4. All Standard Classes, Plus Swashbuckler and Scouts(Sorry no ninjas or Samurai)
5. 3.5 core rules
6. Standard Feats(unless deals with extended class), Equipment(except Warfans), And No Gunpowder weapons...
7. No Whining

Also yeah it is no fun if people cheat... Also if you can exploit rule to your favor great... But remember I'm the master at it and I would piss off my old DM with it ;3
Also if you get killed you can make a new character on party average -1 lvl unless it level 1 of course..

Also I have a none standard ruling rule for stats... also for creating a character you get an extra Bonus feat because I'm generous and I'm taking it from my Old DM...

Possible Aquatic, jungle, plains, and mountain environments to be played on... So start thinking about the characters you want to create....
Does that work for you Starstreaker??

Sounds good! I'll PM you about the location information (depending on distance though I may be late, I get off at 6 +- a bunch depending on when my last customer calls)

I did have one question though: "a none standard ruling rule for stats". I have to apologize but I'm not catching that. The systems I'm familiar with are the "roll 4d6 take the top 3" and a point based system from the 3rd DMG. What precisely do you want us to do for abilities?

Perhaps purchase system, with no racial norm stats for characters. So above or below is cool. I.e. no stats for humans that are 9 or 10.

Could also be the Ebberon standard for PCs of 5 keep 3 instead of standard 3.5 4 keep 3

Schmoopy yeah your in... Also we will be using 3.5 because most of us is familiar with that rule set already

Also it's a rolling system that you won't find in any books... I will not give details about it until you choose whether you want to do standard or My systerm Adopted from my old DM... But I's sure you like my system better then standard 4D6 keep top 3... Also I do let you roll out 3 set of 6 rolls and choose the set you want to use and Allocate them to stats that you want them... Also adopted from my old DM... Also 1st rule of D&D is The DM is always right... Last rule if still uncertain refer to rule 1.

Don't worry about the books... Main things is Dice, bringing your imagination, and having a good time... There is a big difference and It's I think the easiest out of all the Versions of DnD... At least we aren't having to deal with THACO... god that was a pain to figure out sometimes...
