Ah, THAC0 was fun. Armor hit points on the other hand, I could have lived without. One thing I learned from HackMaster (which I have not exported to other games) is that everything that is not nailed down is treasure. Nails are also treasure. We left behind so many tens or thousands worth of GP in that game...

Most certainly bring your imagination. Role Playing for me is just that, playing the role of my character. Be the character, think like they would, act as they would. What we are looking at is like playing pretend, except you know the rules ahead of time. Role Playing is also more fun than Roll Playing. While some people are good to do little more than roll the dice, I desire more for my characters.

And really be ready to have a good time, and not get hung up on the dice rolls so much. You botch a roll, bummer. Find a way to work with it. Maybe your sword got stuck in the dirt. Wouldn't it be cool to do a dive roll past the opposition, pulling the sword from the ground and coming up in an attack position, ready to strike? Perhaps your bow string snapped... again. Go bug the wizard to cast mend on the string and hope it doesn't break next attack. What if your hand was lost when your magic ring blew up? You go and find a high level cleric able to regenerate it, but at what cost? The start of another great adventure I'd wager.

There are so many ways to have fun while role playing, it is mind numbing. Just remember to go in with the mind set that you are going to enjoy it, and you will.

Also Player knowledge verses Character knowledge... Me as a player  I know slashing type weapons only do half damage against Skeletons but a Bashing weapon does Full... Also with some DM's an arrow can just pass right through a skeleton and if your party member is on the other end can  hit him... Add quirks too... I had a elven sorcerer(mostly a Necro) that was tortured by an army of both humans and Orcs... So even though my character had good stats in Int, Wis, charisma... My elf was insane... and Let the halfing "leather type" cut off my ears to join the party... My character before dwarven fighter had a morge hand go through his chest and died... Also things can happen like mixing the compounds of black gunpower then adding fire too it and not knowing what it does... A friends character blow off halve his face.. My character left him there because he thought he was dead... turns out he was just in the knocked out... but he suffered a -2 charisma penalty and we had to get him a mask too...

Also updating 1st post with list of players

Far as books go you really only need the players handbook to roll up characters. Also if your a caster for spell reference.

Yes everyone rolls up a 1st level character I will get some character sheets printed off... Which if everyone has a player handbook it makes it go alot faster... Also I'm experienced with 3.5 D&D that I can help anyone roll up characters... If your a spell caster I recommend you make a notecard for each spell you know... Clerics do your the ones you most often use... it helps alot to have that info right there in front of you instead of searching for in the Players handbook... I downloaded PDF of the books on my computer... My books are still up in cheyenne at my friends house where I used to play... But think about a character... what is there background... what are their goals...  quirks about them... Likes/dislikes... all of these at to the game play and to the story...

I4justice:
First thing first is it needs to be alright with your mom... Also your gonna be put on the waiting list case Amadis or someone else backs out because it's pretty much a full group. I'm willing to teach it but with a group larger then cause slowdowns and in some cases tangents that can distract the game... So if you get your moms permission and someone can't do this then yes you can join the group

Yeah I don't want any unwanted trouble or problems especially from an angry parent..

I would have to look at it first... if it is a race that I'm not allowing to be a PC, or Restrictions also you notice 4th and 3.5 are like apples and oranges...

Well in 3.5 Rangers don't choose specialty until 2nd or 3rd level and Eledrin are a sub-race of elves if I'm correct... I suggest schmoopy is to roll up a Elven Ranger... you won't get spell until 8th level... But once you start playing you see how different the 2 versions are... Also Amadis dropped out so let me know I4justice if your mom approves...

In terms of 3.5 "The Eladrin are a race of fictional creatures appearing described as a type of celestial of chaotic good alignment and hailed from the plane of Arborea" For 4.0 "They are instead a race of fey beings, closely akin to elves." </wiki>

I'd agree with Nogardous, an Elf would be pretty close and one of the "Standard Races" in 3.5 as opposed to a Monsterous race

Yesh at level 2 or 3 you choose to specialize in duel weld or archery... Also Zehir is one of many deities that are in D&D basic one of that category is Nerull god of death, worshipers include necromancers, assassins... I4justice I suggest using wikipedia to do some research on the game especially 3.5

Okay, I'm just gonna say this. I'm trying to understand and I'm puzzling myself with trying to understand it xD

You are dealing with a few people that have played before, and, like many hobbyists of every type, love to talk about what they have done in the past and what they plan for the future. Give it a few sessions, and I'm certain you will know what exactly is going on. Like many great games, it takes only a short time to learn, but a lifetime to master. Of course, you can never really control the dice, so, no matter how well you have created your character, sometimes bad things will still happen.

If you have any questions about D&D, feel free to shot me a PM, and I will answer to the best of my abilities. Please keep in mind that what I know is what I have experienced in other games, and may not apply for this one. Nogardous is the Dungeon Master/Game Master/Judge/Storyteller/What ever else you want to call it, and he is the final authority on what can and cannot happen in his world.
