Several cons I know of have yearly themes. Starfest had themes like 1930's gangsters, tropical island and others. I do remember they thought of Mardi Gras one year, but realized handing out beads might present a problem  :o

CONvergence would have ones like classic sci-fi (Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon), bad guys (Darth Vader, Agent Smith), time travel (Dr. Who, the Time Machine) and more.

In both cases, the theme was reflected in that year's artwork, decorations, and staff outfits.

NDK could have some fun, considering various anime:

Mecha, Horror, classic, 80's, samurai, etc.

i dont think NDK should have a theme... What if People want to go as something other then the theme then no one will want to go...

Just because it has a theme doesn't mean everyone has to follow it... With Starfest their shirts have graphics of the a big Sci-fi film of that year like Startrek last year. It might add something new and appealing to the con in my opinion... nut will cause more work for the staff too

Actually NDK kinda does themes with badge art but that usually doesn't get released until the con.

I think a theme would be fun! Especially for the cosplay competition- It kinda sucks when you spend all this time making a costume that isn't related to either Japan or Anime, and you can't enter it. I'm talking about steam punk, I spend a good amount of time on dresses, yet i can't enter them... kinda sucks :d but any theme really would be cool

Sorry about that, I cosplay as a lot of things that I wouldn't be able to enter into the contest including Steampunk and Avatar:TLAirbenter. If you look at a lot of anime convention rules they have the same sort of thing going on for their costume contests. Don't dispair though there are several other conventions around Denver you can enter your awesome stuff at! Starfest: http://www.starland.com/ and Milehi Con: http://www.milehicon.org/

i think a theme would be interesting. is a theme is just hall decorations and such? i don't think that the attendees need to necessarily dress up if im right.

can you imagine if we had wall decorations?? the already crowded halls would be packed! ><; no, i think it should be for the fans and such to dress up/ maybe even some of the events geared more thematically even?? >w< we don't NEED decorations... the fans are decoration enough lol

but then if the fans were expected to dress up for the theme then what would happen to their cosplay plans? personally i wouldn't give up my cosplay plans in order for the con to have a theme. i just thought a theme would be like wall decorations and possible little palm trees if it was a beach theme or something

hmm, I see your point. But srsly, remember how crowded it was last year? I feel like plam trees would be in the way- or better yet, used as WMD lol xD

Wasabi had a theme last time, it could be fun. We might even be able to do what Starfest does and have a balcony contest based on the theme :)
