The Next Ani-Matrix
« on: February 02, 2010, 01:07:41 am »
I've had a weird idea. Since Japan seems to be willing to do anthology series based on Western franchises (Ani-Matrix, Batman Gotham Knights, Halo, Dante's Inferno), what Western series would you like to see Ani-matrix style? I'll start off with my dream project:

Dr Who -

Eleven Doctors, eleven stories, possibly with a common thread through each of them (Bring back the Black and White Guardians, maybe?), maybe even culminating in a multiple Doctor adventure. Doctors' number 4 (Tom Baker) on up are still around to lend their voices, as are most of the companions. Sound alikes could be used for Doctors' 1-3.

I've seen attempts by Americans to create anime-like Dr. Who fanart and even animation. But I want a studio like Madhouse to take a crack at it. Should be a lot better than the BBC animated Tennant adventures at least.

I'm sure you guys did like it, but the topic is more along the lines of what Western series you'd like to see be done in the style of Ani-matrix.

I'd be curious to see something like The Prisoner receive an anthology, probably several clips involving all different of the "Number Two" characters.  At least the original series seemed to go through a lot of top ranked henchmen in that position.  Either that or centering around the different escape attempts by the prisoner himself, "Number Six".

There are several of the novels i love from the Dr. Who book series that failed to be done in the TV format. I would love to see Number 4 again, he was amazing and then again, I would love to see the curly haired one, I forgot his number with the great K9 robot, still need to build that

Number 4 was Tom Baker, with the curly hair and the scarf.

I'm surprised that other series haven't done something like this, like Battlestar Galactica, Stargate, Firefly, etc.

So the Heroes TV show didn't do so well in the end i'd love to see it turned into an anime.

The geek in me wouldn't mind Stargate or Babylon 5.  It would be cool if they gave Blazeblue the same treatment as Halo as well.  I dunno possibly an Aliens or Predator series OR Aliens vs Predator (since we all know how well the live action movies were ;p)  Oh and of course I can't forget Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog!!!

Well it is hard to say as The Animatrix was excellent but Gotham Knight and Dante's Inferno were down right dreadful.  If they do it right, I agree on Doctor Who (but it has to be David Tennant's Doctor), but I would love to see either God of War, He-Man, or Legacy of Kain be done.

Be a bit of a waste of potential not to try to do most, if not all of them. Given some decent animation budgets, people will be able to see why their parents and grandparents also have affection for that blue box without getting bogged down into the cheap special effects.

Though the series isn't done yet, I think True Blood would make a fascinating anthology done Animatrix style and I definitely second The Prisoner. In addition, they could have a lot of fun with Lost, given the obscure nature of the series to begin with.

Let me get totally meta and suggest : Samurai Jack .

Get different studios to each do their own version of how Jack finally makes it home; or have each do a chapter of the final journey.
Not that I agree with this, but:

It'd be killer to see an animatrix style movie based on Fallout. I've always been pretty dedicated to the series, and I think it could have some potential for animated shorts.

The Prisoner and Doctor for the win though. Everyones life could use more Who.

I prefer The Who, to Doctor Who. >.>

Anyway, I think Homer's Odyssey would make an interesting one as well.

Actually, speaking of epics... The Lord of the Rings series would be interesting. At least we'd finally get to see some good ol' Bombadil.
