An art-centric mini-con?
« on: January 31, 2010, 11:04:59 pm »
Comiket is all based around artist alley, pretty much. The NYE's party was awesome, and I know there was discussion about other smaller events. What about a day/weekend based around the arts in the Anime community? Have an expanded AA, Cosplay contest, AMV showings, maybe some more formal photoshoots? Get a small place, or just rent like...half of the hotel. Does this sound like anything that could even be possible at some point, and if so who could it be aimed at? We could just have one or two panels room running with JUST art based content, and have like...art jam sessions, cosplay live modelling for artist, and costume sewing parties.

An art-centric mini-con?

The short response would be "chances are slim." A longer answer is that it takes a huge amount of time and effort to put on an event on that scale, and considering we're all volunteers here, it's a lot to ask for. This isn't something where we can just say "Sure, we'll do it! How does May work for you?"

More then understood. Like I asked, is there a more appropriate place to suggest this so I can get it out of this thread? The main forums, or events?  I'm sure it wouldn't be something that would happen for a long time, years, if at all, but NDK moving past just that one weekend is something that is really awesome and should be encouraged when possible. Can you break this part of the thread off and stick in it the fitting place?

Done.

To expand on my previous answer, there are literally hundreds of factors that would have to be considered for something like this to happen. The first couple of questions we'd likely ask ourselves are "is this something that we want to do?" and "is this something that would be worth the time, effort, and money we'd have to put into it?" Both of these questions have enormous implications, so this isn't something that will have any easy answers.

One thing that you need to consider, as I mentioned before, is that we're all volunteers. All of this work that we put into making NDK (and now NDK NYE) happen is unpaid and has to be done in our spare time. Some of us already spend hundreds of hours over the course of the year preparing for NDK (and dozens preparing for NDK NYE). Many people just wouldn't have the time to put into yet another major event for NDK. It's not the only consideration when dealing with the idea of another NDK event, but it sure is a big one.

we do meetups from time to time around this place. so my belief is would it be possible to just just gather a group of people together and just do it somewhere like 16th street or wherever and just show off your own art work like a mini gallery by yourselves? nothing official like an actual con but just a scheduled meeutp with a plan like the others possibly?! you can set one up as a formal photoshoot and another as an art meet etc etc etc

eventually word would get around i say  ???

Yeah, I would think the volunteers and funding would be...the hardest thing to get together. I'd be more then willing to help volunteer to do something like this.

I think something....smaller would work too, but maybe in like...IDK, the Tivoli, or a nice community center? Like I assume it'd be WAY smaller then NDK and would be able to fit in a smaller area like that.
