Areas of Volunteering?

(1/3) > >>

Seras:
Some areas of volunteering are very easy to know, but some of them are confusing to me. So I was wondering if you could tell me what I would exactly be doing in all the areas we can volunteer.

Greg Hines:
Erm, that would be quite a list--and something we don't really have put together right now. Is there something specific that you were interested in?

Nogardous:
I know that Line control is fun because you interact with other con goers... and you get called Line Nazi sometimes but I tend to be line neko... You help make sure line in neat as possible... direct people to the end of line and make sure it's not blocking the flow of traffic... which is some areas a challenge

Seras:
Programming, logistics, staff suite, video, and operations are the ones that I really don't get and was wondering what exactly you would be doing in them. The others are self explanatory while these ones confuse me. Sorry for bugging you but my bro wants to volunteer and I might too, I'm not sure yet ^^

Greg Hines:
Programming is dealing with the panels and other activities that we put on. That includes helping set things up, taking headcounts, critiquing panels (for our own use), etc. This is my department, but it's only for staffers and by invite only (sorry).

Logistics helps make things happen around the con. If someone needs some equipment, they'll make sure it arrives on time and at the right place. If something is broken, they'll fix it. If there's a problem that needs solving, they'll solve it.

Staff suite is for staff only, not volunteers. It's a place where NDK staffers can go relax during their downtime and get away from it all.

Video covers our 24-hour anime video rooms. We've got two of them and they're staffed around the clock. Our staffers take care of managing the equipment, starting shows on time, dealing with any problems that arise, and make sure the equipment doesn't start walking away.

Operations (a.k.a. "Ops") is the information hub of NDK. It's where attendees go when they need something peace-bonded, when they need some information, when they want to report a problem, and pretty much anything else you can think of.

Please keep in mind that if you volunteer, you can put in a preference to the areas you're interested in working in, but not all areas need the extra help. We've got a pretty large staff that comes back year after year, so many departments already have all the people they need. Volunteers often work for multiple departments throughout the convention, a few hours here and a few hours there--wherever they're needed at the time. It's typically only after a volunteer is promoted to staff after proving themselves that they tend to settle into a single department.
