Are there any local Cons other than NDK?
« on: January 15, 2010, 02:48:06 am »
I know of NDK and also Wasabi. (I hope I'm in the right board for this? I apologize if I'm not...)

But I wanna know if there are any other events like these going on nearby. I'm really new to all of this stuff. Any help would be very appreciated!

I'm not aware of any other anime conventions, however...

Sakura Festival
Dragon Boat Festival
Renaissance Festival
Starfest
Opus
RM Fur Con
Mile Hi Con

I'm sure I'm missing a few and some might not be running anymore.
All are common events that I've seen NDK regulars attending as well.

The Colorado Cons website attempts to keep track of the local convention scene.

Opus is listed, but they haven't updated that they'll do anything this year.

If your looking towards somthing anime-like, the Cherry Blossum Festival a.k.a. Sakura Festival, has a great selection of anime stuff. Though I wouldn't recomend cosplaying, you can dress in a samuri robe, but that's kinda the limit of it from what I know. I've only been there once though.

The Rennicance Festival, the is the best!!! Ded Bob is funny, the pirate pub is cool, I could go on with it. I go every year as a pirate, and I don't get laughed for it, which makes me happy too.

As for the others, I have no clue about.
All Hail to Pirates!!!

SuperCon is the video game convention and had an anime area last year and probably will again this year.

I talked to one of the people who runs Opus at Milehi con this year and she said they weren't putting on a show this year but would be back in 2011.

This is amazing... I'm slightly distraught that I've never heard of this. Thank you!

As far as the Sakura festival goes, it's amazing! 've been going for a really long time now, and there are alot of good anime related goods and stuff. But as the pocky pirate said, I wouldn't recommend cosplaying. There are actually quite a few people who do but as it is more of a cultural heritage thing, I personally feel it's disrespectful *Shrugs*

If you're interested, why would you not go, just because you can't sew. :P

So the sewing Expo would be people sitting around learning to sew?

I'm not sure what all they do but I believe part of it is demoing new machines like the Janome and Brother embroidery machines.

That does make a lot of sense. Thanks ^_^ It might be pretty interesting to go see new sewing technology.

Well I was more thinking of a lot of people around you would really like sewing and be good at it so it would be a good place to get hints and some help, but then again I'm not quite sure if all niceness and general liking to help out the new comers that seems to be normal in Anime Cons applys to Sewing Cons as well, lol, But I for one would like to think so <3
