I'm in Denver, but I can't find any anime stores. Anyone know of any nearby?

There are very few Stores in Colorado as a whole, Tis very sad. *Cries*
The only one I know of in Denver is "The Anime Store" and it's pretty good:

10101 East Hampden Avenue
Denver, CO 80231
(303) 745-0843
http://www.theanimedvdstore.com/

I hope that helps^^ There is another somewhere else, i believe it's called Gimme Anime but I've never been there, Sorry <3

Gimme Gimme Pillow Toast Closed down? Maybe thats what you're thinking of?
And I suppose it's possible, but I was down at "The Anime Store" about two and a half weeks ago so I don't think so...

Pillow Toast? xD

Maybe it was the other one I was thinking of. The one by the golf course? I remember that one closed down. Unless they reopened it??

Lol, Absolutely no ideaxD But I don't think The Anime Store is near a golf course; and Gimme Gimme Pillow Toast was a little store up in Belmar Shopping Center that had more of little Asian Goods and Unique Clothing and such.

That makes me a sad, sad panda. So I'm guessing the only way to meet people who like the same things I do would be to haunt this forum, huh?

Have you gone to Wasabi, Irony? I just heard about that recently, actually. I was wondering if it was worth visiting.

OK, let's please bring this back on topic. If the two of you want to chat, please take it to PMs.

As for anime stores, there's also Gimme Anime.

2790 S. Havana St., Suite V
Aurora, CO 80014

303-369-0043

Unfortunately, their retail store isn't going to be open much longer (they're going to focus on convention and internet sales), but they're a great local store that you should check out in the next couple of weeks (they're closing the retail site at the end of the month).

And best of all, they're bootleg-free. Some stores are willing to sell Hong Kong knock-offs because they're cheap, but every item you'll find at Gimme Anime is legit. (For those that want to help support the anime industry rather than hurt it, this is important.)

Um...wasn't there an anime store in Colorado Springs? I am just curious if it is still around, been awhile since I have been there.

Actually the sad thing is about Denver there are no real speciality stores other than Gimme Anime, Gimme Gimme Pillow Toast, and The Anime Store, which is the number of 3. There is also 25th Hour which is more of a gamer store and anime store on the side, that's in Olde Littleton, I think, or did it close?

Wow, this one got big fast.

Yes, we're going to end being a retail shop at the end of January, but we will still be around. If you know exactly what you're looking for and you can make it during business hours, you can come in and we can get it for you from the back. Or you can order items from our webstore at www.gimmeanime.com and choose the Pick-up option and pick it up at our location. Or just wait until we appear at a local convention like Animeland Wasabi, Starfest, NDK or the Cherry Blossom Festival. But you won't be able to come in and browse anymore and our hours are going to be shorter.

The other anime stores in the Denver area included:

Buy Me Anime (closed)
Animeniacs (bootleg shop, closed)
Blue Heaven Anime & Boba/the 25th hour (bootleg shop, closed)
The Anime Store & DVD Repair (bootleg shop)

Gimme Gimme Pillow Toast was more of a Japanese knick-knack shop with a lot of anime goods in it. They are now doing shows and events as well.

The Colorado Springs shop was Lucky Neko Anime & Hobbies, but they've been closed for several years now. They were the first proper anime shop in Colorado.

As far as why anime stores keep closing, well, you'd think that a town that can support 2 anime conventions, the larger one getting 6500 people, there'd be plenty of support for a retail anime shop. I guess it boils down to that most people would rather save up  their money and buy anime a couple times a year than all year around.

I buy my anime year around simply to keep up with my own interests in shows and hobbies. With your store going to only conventions, but only doing online sales, it makes things a little harder to find fellow anime fans other than NDK and Animeland Wasabi.

Also Animeniacs is still around, but their store is in Washington state, the only reason I know is because I still get e-mails from them.

Well, unfortunately the anime fans weren't showing up here. Denver Anime International, which will also be shutting down, has 3 people, not counting myself. Terra's Art Class/Jam got only attracted a handful of people. The other anime club that was meeting here disbanded years go. So obviously the fans are sticking to their school clubs, the Meet-up groups and whatever's planned on NDK boards. NDK is very easily the center of the anime community in Denver, not any of the stores.

That's way too true, sadly, since I'm not in college anymore and when I do have free time, I have issues trying to meet with people. But again, the meetups have helped me with some socialization.

There is a video store up in Fort Collins that sells anime as well as rents it. Its all legit stuff. No bootlegs. Pretty good pricing too. Its called Village Vidiot. I know its a stretch of a drive for most of you but if you live in northern Colorado region you should check it out.
what if everything around you
isn't quite as it seems?
