I haven't yet been to Wasabi but I wanted to this year despite hearing mostly bad things. I originally planned to be in the artist row, and back in... November, I think (my memory might be failing me, but it was definitely a while back) I checked and was disappointed to see that the artist row had already been filled. They provided an email address to contact if you were interested in getting on the waiting list, but when I did so I never received any kind of response. I wasn't too happy about that.

As I said, I haven't been so I can't give a personal opinion, but my sis and her friend who went, as well as some other friends of mine, all told me they had a terrible experience with the Hotel staff. My sister, her friend, and her mother weren't allowed to check in till 3 pm for some reason (which sucked because they got there at 9 am and really wanted to get into the room), but when 3 finally rolled around they were told they'd have to wait another hour. The mother explained that she had serious knee problems (which she does) and that she HAD to lay down soon because sitting in the lobby was killing her. They let them in. My other friends experienced plain rudeness from the staff, being told to "be quiet" when they were talking normally as they walked out of the elevators, and maids waking them up in the morning despite having the "do not disturb" flaps on their doors.

As for me, from the things I've heard I hope they find a better Hotel. I will probably go next year, but don't think I'll buy a pass or a stay in a room.

Yeah, I have to agree with you Hyura. We got a room, which stated we could check in at 10:00, and it got extended till 3:00. We bought breakfast tickets to come with the room and the check-in woman said it was only for 1 person, and we had to talk to the manager. The breakfast sucked anyways, so i ended up eating cheerios. Hence.

Yeh, ALW's is rlly confusing too :s I'd just rather post blogs :s

And yeh, Hotel Staff was so nice when I came running in asking for bathroom (I'm serious. Nicest voice ever, though me quivering might have been the cause of that. Milk plus green tea for a 45 minute ride when you have a weak bladder = bad idea :s)

Never tried the food. I decided to stay away from it XD

I should make it clear again since there still seems to be some confusion:

We recognize that many NDK attendees are also Animeland Wasabi attendees. We also recognize that people who know each other from NDK sometimes want to meet up at other venues.

At the same time, however, this is still the NDK forum and it's backed by NDK's resources--hosting costs, the volunteered time of moderators (none of us get paid to do this), etc. As such, we'd generally rather refer people to the other convention's website or forum where possible.

We don't mind facilitating basic discussions about other conventions, but we want to keep our role in that limited. That's why we ask that people limit discussion of other conventions to somewhat general terms. If you want a rule of thumb of what we're fine with people discussing, think "convention, not people."

So anyways, to get back on topic. How were the panels for everyone? Personally, I enjoyed the panels at the con, though I only went to Anime Improv, the autograph session, Uncle Yo's performance, and the Cosplay Contest. But how was everyone's panel experience?

Also, I enjoyed the layout of the Artist Alley being kinda all over, just so that no spot of the con seemed unnecessary :) Anyone else;s feelings on this?

Does anyone know what the name of the vendor in the back on the right with the white shelves? He's the older gentleman with the cane.

Let me know if you can remember. <3

Uhmm, was he by the panels, over by the information desk, or in the back area where the exit to the dealers room is?

Anime USA. They are NDK regulars. Nice couple. I've been to several cons with them.

Hmmm i usually take a lot more picutures at the cons i go to but for some reason not sure why but less cosplays stood out to me. I dont know if people just took less time with their costumes for this con or if they consider it a half way point for their best cosplays or what.

Is this just me or did anyone else notice this?

Lx, I noticed that with some, but again, the costumes were still interesting, I loved the Avatar! There was some haphazard costumes, but again, I was looking for good shots, found some and will find more at Starfest and NDK.

i did the same. i think i told you the same thing?! it wasnt that they were bad, it just wasnt really 'huzzah' . i noticed that most of the people just wore the same things from last year or other meetups from years past too. still good to see though so i wasnt totally unimpressed.

@Justice the only panel i got to was the Monsters of Rock w/ Jrock version of Scene it. it was okay but i dont know that much about jrock so my team lost rather poorly. i was glad to help setup though. the people before left the room a mess pretty much :/

*peeks out from lurking* I noticed it a little. I did see several really good ones, but not as many as at NDK. I have to admit, I was one of those who just threw on an incomplete cosplay. It was one I was working on for NDK this year, and decided to test drive it. I hadn't even bothered to style my wig yet. Maybe a lot of other people did the same? Or maybe they just didn't know what to expect for ALW (I sure didn't know what to expect), and just kind of threw on whatever they thought was good enough.

@l4Justice, I really enjoyed the panels I went to. Especially the improv and Uncle Yo. I also enjoyed the cosplay panels. I learned a few new tricks, and was reassured to find out that some things I've wanted to try when making a costume, might actually work well.
