Yar. I give respect to competition martial arts but it is important not to get them mixed up with combat. I agree.

I also think the competitive environment can jeapordize the spirit in a way. But that's not sport martial arts dojo, and they are still martial arts in their own right.

That sounds like a pretty good deal =)

Keep in mind those aren't styles of TKD, those are organizations. XD

Yes, i know that, but to be honest, some of the organizations that are recognized by the Olympic committee are generally the best in the world. ATF is actually banned from the Summer Olympics and I don't argue with the legalities of the groups.

The school that I was in Korean Academy of Taekwondo, RoninEclipse2G actually focuses on both the competition sparring and practical defense (i.e. Self Defense), mostly the classes are open for both men and women are usually at night. though Master Bill Pottle who is one of the teachers are the school is a great guy. His wife teaches the self defense classes as far as I know. I am not sure how it works, but they do it tag-team, though she's expecting a baby, so I think he's taken over the classes. I am usually recommending KAT because I have gotten good results.

I am also though seeking out a school that teaches Tenshi Tenassen which is a war fan martial arts, its an actual fighting style that is rare to learn and some of the masters are either not going to teach someone because you are Gaijin (not a nice word, I know) or they are filled with other students. To be honest, the last master I knew of this style died out maybe two years ago.

Do not know what 'Gaijin' means X.X;;

I've learned some fan-kata from a Kung Fu user. I don't know what school he did but I'd guess that would broaden your options XD

Gaijin - literally translated means "outsider" generally used to refer to non-asian people.

There are still some schools out there that still hold on to the old ways and won't teach us whiteys

I used to take karate myself, but I'm thinking of going into either tai chi or aikido.

I dont remember if I put a post up in here so I figured I would go ahead and do so: I trained in kempo for 2 years then started MMA - I love it and I love to fight. I dont really "like violance" so much but I just love grapling/sparring/MMA style. Anyway to fight I love. ALSO I love swords and weapons and i've been training with them since like forever i think i started...10 years ago?

Cool... what weapons have you trained in? I'm training myself with the katana(I still need to work on my battoujutsu, unfortunately).
