What Games/Anime have the best soundtracks
« on: December 12, 2009, 10:55:40 pm »
This thread is for posting what video games and/or anime have the best soundtracks. animes/games can be new or old :) opening and ending credits count too.

I would have to say that the dark cloud soundtrack is definitely up there with the bests even though it is a relatively unknown game, along with castle crashers, and most of the final fantasy series.

for anime my favorite soundtrack would be Cowboy bebop, or BECK. Others include Fullmetal alchemist, or eureka 7.

I second Dark Cloud, KH2, DNAngel(Teehee, DNA), and Death Note. Personally, I LOVE the soundtrack of Ar Tonelico, though an unheard of game. I like singing along in hymnos!
Be happy for the ones you have lost, since they know now that you are not the one...

Planning on going to NDK NYE and NDK 2010! I'll be Advent Children Yuffie for one day, maybe Ritsuka, I'm going to do either a green haired Terra, or Kuja, and a secret project that nobody cares about. :D

There was a similar thread a little while ago where I posted a somewhat lengthy response. I'll quote that post to spare myself a bunch of typing:

I'm really fond of the Fullmetal Alchemist score, particularly the "Brotherhood" theme. I enjoyed a few of the songs from the opening/ending credits, though not all. Last I'd checked, the US releases only cover a fraction of what the Japanese CDs do, which is a shame. (And I'm too cheap for imports...)

Naruto's "Konoha" theme is quite nice as well, as are a few of the opening and closing songs.

I enjoyed the .hack//Roots score. It's got some interesting variations on themes from classical music, plus plenty of original music. I happened upon the CD at GimmeAnime's booth I think at the last NDK (maybe it was Starfest?) and had to buy it. I'm glad I did.

Evangelion's got some good music, and I've got I think all but one or two of the various CDs they've released... which means I own about 12 copies of "Fly Me to the Moon." :P

Haibane Renmei's score is one of my favorite anime scores, and I picked up the soundtrack immediately after watching the show. Unfortunately, they domestic CD doesn't have the "Blue Flow" song from the end credits, likely for licensing reasons. (Naturally, if I bought the import instead, it'd be on there. *sigh*)

Millennium Actress had some fantastic music as well, though I've had trouble locating a soundtrack for it. I guess it wasn't popular enough in the US to get a release.

And, of course, one can't forget the music of Joe Hisaishi from Miyazaki's films. I particularly enjoyed the Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away scores.

As for the "best?" I couldn't say. I've not heard them all, and I don't think I could pick out the "best" even if I had. I've got a few that I enjoy more than the others (notably FMA, Haibane Renmei, and Spirited Away), but I'd have trouble even picking out a favorite. Cop-out? Sure. But there's no one soundtrack that sticks out in my mind as the "best."

As for games, the Final Fantasy series has had some wonderful music. I also have the soundtracks to World of Warcraft, World of Goo, Braid, Age of Empires III, Diablo II, and several others. A friend also played some music from Guild Wars for me; there's definitely some good stuff there. And apparently Hans Zimmer just did the score for Modern Warfare 2... I haven't played the game yet, but I'm looking forward to hearing what his first video game score is like.

Anything that has even a speck of input from Nobuo Uematsu, most notably, the Final Fantasy series.

The Legend of Dragoon soundtrack is nice.

And Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. I use to fall asleep to that stuff.

A buddy of mine is loaning me his copies of the 3 Persona soundtracks.
I'm looking forward to hearing that.

That statement still cracks me up.

The World of Goo isn't an 8-bit soundtrack, though it does have one 8-bit track (#19: "Hello, MOM"). The rest of the tracks are more or less normal.

At any rate, it does have a great soundtrack. It employs many different musical styles, so it stays interesting throughout. You can download it for free (legally!) from the composer's web site. Highly recommended!

I loved the "Einhander" sound track.   Also Mega Man 2 and 3.  Surprised no has mentioned the "Legend of Zelda" yet.

Legend of Zelda: OoT contains some of my favorite game music of all time. I also greatly enjoy the opening songs of Lunar: Silver Star Story and Lunar: Blue Star Story.

Anime-wise, Sailor Moon Stars has some really good stuff. The StarLights have a couple really good songs in there, and the OP is fantastic. Same goes for the OPs of Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni (and Kai). Oh, and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Vandread is another good one for the OP and ED

After playing Bayonetta recently i fell in love with the soundtrack for the game.  The game has really catchy and pretty music.  Tsubasa Chronicles has some of my favorite music from an anime.  I love all the insert songs they put in it.
