siren, instead of double-posting (two in a row), please use the "Modify" button to add something on to your original post.

And yes, you must have someones permission to glomp them.  Asking is simple, and it prevents a whole host of problems.  Axis, it already is in the law.  See this post for the lowdown from a lawyer.

To keep this on topic: my first memory of NDK was sitting around with friends after DAI.  They said, "you know, we ought to have an anime convention in Colorado."  And from that simple idea, and a lot of dedication and hard work....

Oh right, i knew the whole sexual assalt deal. I totally agree with that. But does a simple hug count as sexual assalt? They banned it in elementary school.... sorry, just wondering >< didnt mean to get off topic

If it's unwelcome, then yes.

My first memory is waiting in line for my first NDK badge ever (2005). I was worried it wasn't there, my name is hard to spell, but it was and I put on and wandered the con taking pictures until Opening Ceremonies. Not only my first NDK, but my first convention ever. ^_^

hmmm first ndk memory...... probably turning into the hotel street and seeing cosplayers, I remember completely spazzing out from seeing a Riku from Kingdom Hearts, NDK was my first anime con so I got really excited when I saw cosplayers in real life. I'd gone to Starfest twice before so I was used to con setting, but Starfest doesn't have nearly as many anime cosplayers (I'm usually the only one....) so seeing characters I actually know made me really happy. Starfest I go to for the dealers room, NDKis for everything else :3

My first NDK memory?  Oh geez... do I have to pick one?  XD Honestly I have so many great ones they sorta get mushed around in my head..
Mh, let's see here.. During the cosplay contest, someone cosplaying Tamahome from Fushigi Yuugi walked onto stage, stood in front of the mic and froze, I was cosplaying Miaka and sitting in the audience, so I jumped up and yelled out "TAMAHOME!!"  He responded by holding his arms out and yelling "MIAKA!!"  XD Twas a funny moment.

=w= Oh~ and a kiss on the cheek from Scott McNeil.

It's sorta funny that my 'first' memory wasn't actually from the first time I attended NDK. I had to remind myself that was the second year, so I'll tell both!  Story Time!

The first year I didn't really 'get' cosplay, but I had friends that did it and I wanted to play too.  So I picked a random DVD cover and said I'd make that outfit, which turned out to be Lacus Clyne from Gundam Seed.  Well, my friend had made a Zechs Merquis costume had forgotten her mask in our room.  Since she and my other friend were in line to sign up for the costume contest, and her boy was MIA, I said I'd get it.  So after getting up the elevator, getting the mask and getting back down I knew I was running late, so I literally ran to find them.  Please note that I don't run on principle, and never ever in NDK any more.  Well, the shoes I had on for Lacus had once been dance shoes and still had the metal on the soles, and when I hit the 'cobblestone' I slid like a maniac.  I luckily have pretty good 'panic' balance and didn't fall, but as I skidded past, with Zechs' mask held high, I heard "Wait, was that Lacus sliding past us?  What was she holding??".  I tried not to die laughing.

The first memory that popped into my head though was from my second year.  I was debuting my first Official Cosplay version of Catherine Sforza from Trinity Blood and had thus far run into a lot of 'Oh you're from that one show!' and was starting to get a bit bummed that no one knew who I was.  Walking near the bar I felt a tug on my skirt I looked down at the most adorable little girl dressed as Kikki from Kikki's Delivery Service.  In a very quiet voice she asked if she could have a picture with me and I just melted on the spot.  I'm very sad I never got to see that picture, because it made all the other comments of the day just seem silly to worry about.

I remember carpooling to one of the early NDKs (either the second or third one). Unfortunately we didn't leave Boulder until 5:30pm or so on Friday. When we got there I saw a really short line and got in it. Once I got to the front I found out that I was in this thing called the 'pre-reg' line and had to get at the back of the long line--although it was nothing like the lines you see now. By the time I got my badge the dealer rooms were closed. :(

Going to the very first NDK(Gimme Anime, I know that feeling). Also, good to know BakuDan and George are still around... even though DAI is no longer running. Good times, good times. Hopefully I can start making new memories at this year's NDK.
Strike me down, and I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine

My first NDK was the second to last year it was at the Holiday Inn.  I think I was pretty overwhelmed because before then I'd just watch anime on TV, get a DVD here and there, but I was lovin just the whole experience.  So I guess my first memory is just simply my first NDK.  I was only there for Saturday, but there was a whole group of us which is always fun.  We went across the street for lunch and talked about everything going on, and yeah just a fun time.

My first NDK memory was AWESOME!

So my first year at NDK I dressed up in an obscure anime that was hard to find even in Japan ((obviously not in English)). It was a beautiful costume, but I kept getting mistaken for some character in Angel Sanctuary. Now I knew no one was going to recognize me, but I carried the manga with me just to show people. But, they didn't ask who I was because well... they thought they knew me.

So completely bummed about not being able to show off my obscure anime. I happened to wonder into the lobby where a staff member turned to me and cocked his head to the side. Sliding up next to me, he gave me the look down. NO NOT LIKE THAT! *cough* So he then ask who I was!!!!!! YAY!!!!! My face lit up and I quickly retrieved my manga. Of course being me I was a clutz and dropped everything else I was carrying. He was a gentleman and helped pick up some of my stuff. He then carried the stuff over to a chair and instructed me to sit down while I showed him the manga. Thrilled, I went on a two minute tirade. After word, he raised his eyebrow and used a pickup line from the manga that I told him about.

Let me tell you! I turned as red as a bride after an allergic reaction! Watching me trying to find an answer was probably hilarious because he cracked up. After we both calmed, he asked me to the rave. AND HE WAS CUTE! Short blonde hair and LOVELY blue eyes. ^^; Tall too. Ah, those were the days.

Okay, maybe it wasn't that cool. Still the best First Memory of anything for me.
Give a man a fish, and he'll stink up a town. Give him a fishing pole, he'll poke out your eye. See? Perfect logic.

I will start with getting lost on the drive there. It seemed like a maze in order to get to the Marriot! So we just followed all the cosplayers that were walking down the street! :)

Well another memory of my first NDK, was just all the cosplayers, kinda overwhelming.  I mean I love anime but that first time was my first experience with anime fandom at large.  And also there were WAYYYYY!!!! too many Inuyasha character cosplayers, namely Inuyasha and Kagome.  Ever since that first year me and my friends always make a point of trying to decide what anime will be cosplayed the most.  Sadly its getting harder since a lot of fans are watching stuff online instead of buying DVDs and TV, but its still fun.

Naruto and Bleach are also very popular cosplay ideas. Last year, I only saw a few InuYasha cosplayers. But I did only go one day due to a tight schedule...L from Death Note is also very popular...I think its just because its an easy cosplay that you can find by digging through trash cans...Volcaloid, also a very popular one...sad thing about what Im saying is, I am cosplaying from Naruto, Death Note, and Volcaloid this year =/ I feel so disappointed in myself. (Fullmetal Alchemist is also a popular one!! And Ouran High School Host Club!!!)

Yes, but what was your first NDK memory?

Mine was a group of friends saying "we ought to have an anime con in Colorado."
