My first time at NDK? If I remember correctly, it was at the Tivoli and consisted solely of non-subtitled Japanese language anime (The Slayers! was one of the featured, and still one of my favorites) and a dealers' room with only three dealers.

The next time I attended was at the Sheridan on Union Blvd, I believe in 2000 (NDK 4, if I'm counting correctly). The layout was horrible with programming spread out sporadically on about four different floors. On the upshot, the AMV room had only a couple dozen attendees.

The year after that was at the Holiday Inn at I-70 and Chambers and I know I've been in attendance every year since then.

The auction is one of the best things about the convention, with all the proceeds going to deserving charities. This year my wife and I just donated some items for it. Someday we hope to help out the staff on a regular basis.

I remember having to navigate RTD from 17th and Lincoln to the Holiday Inn at Chambers and I-70 for NDK Go. All because of this guy I was dating...

Needless to say I married him. So the lesson here guys: if she goes across town on public transit to get to the convention you invited her to, she just might be in love with you.

Since then, been trying to give back - made some AMVs in the past, was on Staff for a couple of years, won thrid place in the art show one year and people's choice in the model show another year and bought a lamp at the charity auction for $300.00 once.

Looking forward to this year and giving back once again...

Jesus in a Diaper.  Actually..that's not my first, I think that's just most prominant whenever people ask for memories.

my first.... seeing a girl with a fan twice as tall as she was.... and walking around like it weighed nothing. I was impressed.
-This year, I'm designing my own steampunk-lolita costume and it's looking amazing so farr

My first NDK memory that I can actually grab on to out of the blur that was my brain being overwhelmed by the cosplayers and all the sheer nerd in the air...the thing that woke me up and let me laugh and come to my senses:

A crowd of fangirls screaming as Kakashi was making out with...himself.

The sheer shock and absurdity of it finally broke my hold on reality and allowed me to let go and have fun. When you're going to a business school, it can be pretty hard to switch off sometimes, and that shock was just what I needed to realize that I'm not in a classroom anymore.

This was in 2007, and it was on the Friday, so I'm sure that Kakashi pair knows who they are. ;)

Another first would be a better appreciation for getting the hell out of people's way!  I mean I'd always had the knack just from school of weaving in and out of crowds, but still the congested Holiday Inn halls made me even more aware and even to this day, I admit I have a short tolerance for those who stand idly in the middle of a hallway or such and block traffic, or plod along while people are trying to move by.

Not that NDK is to be blamed for that little personality quirk, but I can't help saying it contributed, haha.  Not a bad memory though it became a game of sorts to weave through the throng.

Oh yeah, and also my first NDK me and my friends went across the street to get pizza at I think a Pizza Hut across from the Holiday Inn.  It was fun because we were all together sharing what we'd seen and all.  It actually grew into the tradition we now have of ordering pizza every Saturday(my first year I only went on Saturday).  So yeah, good times.

My first NDk moment and by far one of my favorite moments in life was when my sisters and i entered the costume contest for the first time in at our first con ever. When we arrived at the registration table for the contest one of the ladies asked us if we were part of the children's cosplay...i was 16 then...funny really

My first NDK memory was finding out about the con and heading up to denver the next day, wandering around, hitting the dealers room, watched a few vids, and then was very sad at having to go home since we didnt have enough to stay the whole weekend.

First memory? Getting a call from a fellow anime club member telling me about it scrounging up about $15 for a Sunday pass and hitching a ride to the Holiday Inn and being amazed and saddened that I missed the majority of the con.

My first memory isn't of the con itself... it's watching sadly as my friends went, and I couldn't afford to do it *is a poor kid*  This was my first year going, and it was SO EXCITING actually being there and not just seeing pictures and hearing stories.
That word?  Yeah, that one?  I made it up.  :3

My first memory is being sick to my stomach due to extreme allergy problems and stress. I didn't eat all day and yet I was ok with that since I felt bad either way. That Saturday, the best I felt was when I found a group of Bleach cosplayers who were really nice in including me and my friends in their group. We sat in the hallway and chatted about random stuff. It was then, for an hour or so, I forgot my awful problem and had a glimpse of the epicness of hanging out with strangers who understand you.

My first memory of NDK was back in October/Novemer of 2001 when a friend of mine, Don Krause aka "Marshakk", told me about it when I was buying a few comics & manga at his comic book store "Marshakk's House of Fantasy" and I had made mention that I would really love to go to an anime convention at some point.  At which time he told me about how I had just missed NDK last month, but did tell me everything he knew about it.

Then in September of 2002 I can remember driving down to Denver and arriving at the Holiday Inn, buying my badge (didn't pre-reg that year), the "HALLWAY OF DOOM" there at the Holiday Inn, and thinking it was a good idea to drive back up to Cheyenne Wyoming that night instead of getting a hotel room.  Then deciding the next day it was a much better idea to get a room for Saturday night and not risk wrecking my car attempting that drive again :)  But what really stands out in my mind is the damn good time I had, and how I couldn't wait for next year.  And I've had that same thought each and every year since then.

My first NDK memory is of dying my hair and my friend's in a motel bathroom and absolutely destroying the towels. It looked like we used them to clean up a crime scene. xD

Well my first memory shall forever be working the line for the early entry into the dealers room. Making sure that everyone stayed in line and not blocking doors. After that I played elevator Nazi for an hour and a half. If anyone remembers the guy in the solid snake T-shirt running the elevators on friday afternoon say HI!
Planned cosplays for 2012:
Big Boss (Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater), Black Waltz 3 (Final Fantasy IX), Nappa (Dragonball Z), The Stig's Spartan cousin (Halo/Top Gear mashup)

My first memory of NDK was, definitely, walking to the Marriott and seeing cosplayers walking in the same direction... made me almost forget I wasn't in Japan anymore!

My first NDK memory was NDK09 my girlfriend at the time nearly getting us into an accident because she was following the others in the convoy from our college Anime club when they took a wrong turn. Then once at the hotel being told that the stick we had hit coming down from the foothills was a rake and we JUST missed the rake end and it was facing up >.<  Then spotting a Princess Mononoke San with spear, and my fav the Sailor Moon scouts, and generals.

After that was NDK10 while in cosplay as Inuyasha in the Dealers room when my Fellow cosplayer said "sit" without realizing it and I hit the floor. She turned as red as my fire rat kimono as with having the guy from a nearby booth start walking over toward us to find out why I was on the ground as the funny looks form the people around us until they understood what happened.  And watching Sailor Moon push Sailor Chibi Moon back making her trip over her Luna p ball and fall down and then her reaction to the mishap. All because I think it was snake hitting on Sailor Chibi Moon, I think as I really didn't catch it.

Denver West Sheraton, uhhhh, 2001? Wow I feel old.

I remember the dealers room (which was tiny and, oh yeah, really bright because it was in a room with windows). I bought a polo shirt that had a logo for "League of Evil Geniuses"

I remember a sort of anime guessing game that had some very witty contestants. And I remember a guy that was churning out tiny model gundams like a madman.

I was a lot younger and my brother was driving his pickup and I was passenger and this was when it was out in Lakewood at 6th and simms (i think).  Anyways, he was and still is clueless about anime, but I was just getting into it.   He was driving me to and eye appointment and on the way back we see the convention, I had no idea about anime conventions at the time.    I made him drive around the parking lot and was looking at all the cosplayers.   He was very confused what was happening and referred to it as a "UFO convention or something"   I didn't realize it was NDK until a few later when i first attended my first one.

I only wish I could have convinced him at the time to take me inside and see the con.
I like Squad 4, less risk of dying, the work may be hard, but I get to stay away from hollows.
