Balcony Decorations
« on: September 15, 2009, 07:43:48 pm »
This was my, and my friends, first year at NDK and we had a blast. One of the things that amused us the most was all the balcony decorating that went on. I was curious if there was maybe a way to have a balcony decorating contest? Of course there would be very strict guidelines. Probably some along the lines of:
1- Cannot post anything with profanity/nudity/gang signs/or religious bashing
2- Cannot be nailed to the walls
3- Nothing more then a banner can be hung from rails (for the fear of stuff falling and hurting someone)
4- Must be easily taken down.

It was just a though that my group had.

Thx for the fun time! :)

I was surprised. The balconies weren't as decorated as they have been in recent years.

Starfest (our local Star Trek, Star Wars, Sci-fi Convention) does the same sort of contest.
It's a good idea. I think Staff is just so horribly overburdened most of the time that ANOTHER undertaking is unbearable. XD

Who knows, maybe one day we'll adopt the idea. ^_^

I'm so thrilled that you guys had fun! I always love to hear that.

Yep the atrium balcony decors during NDK is on of the many traditions the kan has done since being at the Marriott. A balcony decoration contest is a swell idea.

We may want to tone down the content of some of this thread.

But I agree that the banner contest is an awesome idea.

i know i saw some people getting talked to last year about having things on the balcony. So i wonder if that had anything to do with it or if people were doing something wrong hanging stuff etc. we had ours covered in the wall scrolls my friend bought >< by mid day saturday. FYI i liked the halloween theme below our that the Soul Eater crew had, with the little cat that had the blair witch hat on it too!

They probably got told off for having their banner/wall scroll/whatever touching either the sprinkler system above their balcony or the pipe running below.

For some reason, I'm never able to reserve a balcony room it seems. I never get the chance to do any decorating...

..then again, I'm the guy who wants to go overkill with it and get a Team Gurren flag about half the size of the wall and just hang it up across a ton of balconies.

C'mon, it's Gurren Lagann, it's all about the overkill! :D

may i also suggest that any ladies wearing skirts do not go near the rails due to the fact we men can see up your skirt and not to mention that all the men will stop and block paths lol. OH and if your going to get busy with your partner please don't start on the balcony and for god sakes CLOSE YOUR BLINDS!!! lol *shivvers*
Ah ha ha, seems like you have seen some disturbing things this year XD
But that would be cool to have a competition for best balcony decorations, also by doing so it would help encourage more decorations ^.^

I agree. One of the first things I pointed out Saturday night was how the decorations were way tame compared to previous years I've attended. I think a contest is an amazing way to liven up those balconies. And if you want a balcony, you've got to be one of the very first to reserve your room. Definitely worth it, though!:)

Sounds like a great idea!  Remember, it cannot be hung from the fire system piping either...

There was also a really neat moment I got to experience when I was walking through the atrium and noticed the ground-level crowd cheering on a dancing NoFace on one of the balconies.  NoFace's returns to the balcony would really excite the crowd.

It wuz happy time!   :D
