Fun memories of NDK 2009
« on: September 14, 2009, 07:22:18 am »
Well I am home from the latest NDK. As usual I'm am a combination of exhausted and excited. I have so many special memories of this years convention, many of which were impromptu moments. In no particular order here is what I remember with a smile.

1. In the AMV "extra video's" (showing video's that didn't make the final AMV) room. One of the video's was done to "Bohemian Rapsody" by Queen. Suddenly the room started singing the song (complete with a couple of people with vocal special effects).

2. On Saturday night this "conga line" started forming in the atrium that looked like it went forever. People were constantly joining in. I'd be willing to say at least 100 people were in that line (I did to even though I ripped one of my knees trying to keep pace with the younger kids.

3. At the charity auction event Michael McConnohie won a Pikachu doll in the raffle then offered to put it up for auction. Later on he offered to sign the doll along with Wendy Powell. Then he joked (I assumed) he'd sign Pikachu on the butt. After the bidding ended the entire room started chanting "SIGN THAT BUTT!!!!! SIGN THAT BUTT!!!!! over and over again.

4. On Saturday Afternoon there was a booth set up for people to be able to breath what I can only describe as "scented oxygen". This is apparently a big thing over in japan;. I was skeptical but decided to try it. It was fun.

Those are just some of my favorite memories from this convention. I honestly want to hear what your favorite moments. It could be serious or it could be funny but I'd honestly want to know what your memories of this convention was.

See all of you next year

Well getting to hang out with Chris, Todd, and Wendy outside on Friday night was fun, especially since it was my first time meeting Todd.  He is a pretty cool person, and I'm quite surprised though that Wendy did not drink as much as she usually does that night.  And Chris and Wendy have always been cool, but then again, Wendy is also friends with my girlfriend, so that is awesome.

Another thing is getting to meet Michael.  Earlier in the day on Saturday I asked him if he would sign my stuff when I saw him throughout the day, as I had a lot of stuff to sign.  When I ended up being in a panel he was hosting, afterwards, he came up and asked if I wanted him to sign some stuff before he left, and that was really cool.  However, the best thing was one of the things I had him sign was a booklet from my B-Fighter Kabuto Region 2 DVDs, which had a picture of the mole monster he did in the US version that was known as Beetle Borgs Metallix, and he said to Melodee, "Hey look, this is the monster I did in that show.  Wow, they never showed me who I was doing when I had recorded the dialog."

Staying with my awesome roomates was the best thing of the entire con. I got the privilidge of listening to some of the funniest people I've ever met. (Mark with his Jim Ross impressions...) Seeing people is what the con is all about for me.

My favorite moment was when I was called up to get my award during the cosplay contest and my friend Ryan shouted "Get some!" really loud. That was a real highlight for me. My friends are great.

Everybody who was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo enthusiastic and kind about my jewelry.  And my 2nd place A&M Show award for 3D art!  Hwei!  I'm second best, I'm second... um... hmm... ok, never mind....   God does this so my ego doesn't get too inflated.   ::)  Speaking of which...

Backhanded compliments were very entertaining this weekend.  I love the old friend who told me he met someone just like me, she's sweet and bubbly and cute and really pushy.... Um.  Thanks, dear.  I also love the people I told this to who said *Haha!  That's horrible....  but it's really kind of right...."  Thanks, I love you too.  LOL  George the Eldar God told me some guy came up and asked him if he was the Lich King.  Because "My friend told me the Lich King was the really old guy by the stage."    :D :D :D  It could be worse, he could be pushy and old....

Seeing people I love is always good.  Convention art was beauuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuutiful.  Artist Alley people neat!  I am envious of little buttons a friend got and I somehow missed in the artist area.  I got the coolest little monster guy in the art and model show - he is crocheted with curly tentacles and one huge eye and I was thinking for this creativity and effort $20 is el cheapo magnifico.  After I bought him the staff said "and isn't his little teddy bear funny?"  Wait, what, he has a little ... ZOMG He Has A Little Teddy Bear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  *dies of twisted cute*  I'm naming him Curly.

Art and Model auction was fun and funny - loved the other people there, they made it very entertaining and I was cheering for everybody (including the people bidding against me, thank you very much Bob), and yes all the people who bid and didn't show up so we had to wait to the second round to bid get their own Bidding - Epic Fail poster.  LOL at when someone was announced as a no-show bidder for the third time "Mark XYZ, Mark XYZ, are you here?  Mark is not here. This item goes to second round."  A tiny calm voice at the back of the room added "Mark is going to Hell."

I get psychic powers award for predicting during AMV pre-judging that the Queen one was going to become a sing-a-long.  ROTFL

And yes, I lost the game.  But did *not* yell that at the top of my lungs, so I win the *other* game (the one where you try not to die because you annoyed everyone too much).

Of course meeting all the new people :3
When me an my sis were cosplaying the Hitachiins, we made friends with a really neat Kyoya =D
Aland although it annoyed a lot of the people around us~ it was fun doing things to make all the fan girls scream XDD Like we blew kisses to some girls, and even kissed each other on the cheeks X3 and plaing the "who is Hikaru" game! (only 1 out of 25 guessed right XD)
I also enjoyed flirting with some of the Grells running around, even though I was not in the right cosplay at the time LOL

Can't wait for next yr :3

Yelling "Get some!" like Joe from Family Guy was just as satisfying as starting the Epic Zombie Chant at NDK 2008.

I really enjoyed people who did not let me sit around.  Sometimes I would sit down with my headphones and Nintendo DS and most of my friends would make me hang out with them instead.  This was the first NDK where I didn't read any (usually I finish a book while I am there).

Lets see... The fire belching death hearse on Saturday was awesome. The complete randomness throughout the con floor was cool from the mass caramelldansens, to the yearly "buttscratcher" and "marco polo" chants, hug lines and many hugs I got and gave were always fun. And seeing all my friends and making new ones during the weekend.

My favorite memories would have to be:

1. Shooting all the L cosplayers with my L Bang multiple times (one of them said I shot her 15 times the whole weekend lol).
2. Finally making it to a Super Smash Bros. Brawl photoshoot this year.
3. Surprised that i gave away all my pocky by the end of Saturday.
4. The dealer that helped me find a One Piece Wallscroll.
5. All the One Piece merchandise I bought at the dealer's room.
6. Shouting "buttscracher" a lot.

This was one fun NDK so far. Hope for years to come, things will look better.

1. People actually cosplayed from Black Cat this year. I'm usually the only one.
2. The fact that people recognized me in my Zombie-Loan cosplay. I had no idea it was so popular!
3. Playing Uno at midnight at the bar.
4. Meeting with people from previous cons and meeting new people.
5. Finding stuff I actually wanted this year from the Dealer's Room.

People gripe about the panels this year (and I do too), but there were a lot of other reasons why NDK was still fun. It's too bad it's over already.

such a good year.
so many fun things happened this year I can't list them all
hanging out on the balcony and watching everyone, better than anything on television.
the panels I made it to were great (anime girl fight! pants on head r-----ed!)
everyones costumes were so cool. I wish we had more events where people could show them off, with all the people I was afraid of offending if I stopped to take a pic.
watching my daughter play with glowsticks at the rave party, too much.
the art and charity auctions, always fun. (bidding didn't go as high as I would have liked, I guess I'm not the only one in a pinch this year, too bad)
every year you guys make this the best thing I get to do all year. I never took the time to thank any of you for doing this, so... thanks. ever since January I've been having a terrible year. I paid for my tickets right at the end of con last year (if I didn't, I don't know if I could have made it this year) and having this to look forward to has gotten me through some bad times (the light at the end of the tunnel) from the moment I pulled up to the hotel and saw the first people in costume my spirits lifted, and over the next few hours my troubles left me. sounds pretty cheesy, but its true. the most fun memory of ndk this year has been... everything! I wish it could last longer, but theres always next year to look forward to! as soon as I get a new job I'll be buying my tickets, so see you then!

Considering the fact that I had to move just when I was getting into a costuming groove, didn't get all of my planned cosplays or my friends done, I still managed to have a good time.  One of my favs was how many people loved my Artimis plushie when I was cosplaying my Venus/Moon cosplay but didn't stop to realize Moon should be carrying Luna.  I guess that's what I get for doing a costume only shown in one episode.  ;)

My other fav was on Sunday.  My friend and I had been butting heads off and on all weekend.  I was debating if I wanted to make the Kingdom Hearts/Final fantsy photoshoot all weekend and had been trying to make keyblades for myself and my friend.  As typical of the whole con, nothing seemed to be going right.  I wanted them done for friday, but no go. I brought stuff to finish them in the hotel. Long story short, I managed to get my belle keyblade done, 20 mins. before the shoot.  Then my friend and I had a mini fight. She finally agreed to follow and take some great pics.  I was so nervous that I wouldn't fit in, my keyblade looked bad/too big, everything.  I managed to get in between two Sora's when we did the KH only group and the one on my left worked with me to make sure the keyblades crossed correctly and everything.  Two group shots later, they wanted hero's for the KH people.  I whent back to the middle and sat down and who should sit next to me but the same Sora from before.  It made my whole con that even though I totally stood out, it was in a very good way.   Considering the toneberry took out the rose on my keyblade after only one pic, I still managed to salvage it.  Can't wait for more epicness next year!  You guys make a girl pushing 30 feel like she's just out of high school again. Yay!
Don't diss the mouse! He may look like a pipsqueek but he does carry a keyblade and who knows, he may have Maleficent at his beck and call.

my funnest memory? probably that I had over 10 diffrent people tell me I should meet myself.
to explane a bit better, I am a member of ops and have been for 3 years now. (woo!) in 2008 i brought a neko-arc (tsukihime) and Rin tosaka (fate/stay night) puppet and they where a huge hit. so this year I picked up a saber (fate/stay night) and horo puppet (spice and wolf) that where also huge hits and several people told me I had to "hunt down the guy with the puppets from last year and hang out with him." rather fun.

other then that I have good memories of the kind "thank you"'s from the people in the amv line when me and my roomie (also staff) would show up with the trays of water for all poor line attendees. (a lot of you looked dead.) and to anyone who took water off my tray. (I had the blue yukata on.) I want you to know it makes me happy to have made your line wait and day and little bit better and  helpful in any way I could.

other then that I had a blast helping out the funimation guy. he was really quite willing to put up with the random questions thrown his way and make the panel fun and interesting. I was supprised there was so few people to that panel..... strange..... oh well. thanks again looking forward to doing what I do for you all next year.
