Questions for new Kan goers here
« on: August 31, 2009, 10:46:40 pm »
i guess the main reason for this is because i still have questions sorry staff for the the hassle :P

and i'm also guessing if we make a more unified board and put questions together it might be easier to answer so feel free to post questions here, for all the other n00bs

Q1 when does ndk close every night or does it?
Q2 if it doesn't close does that mean i could be there all night?
Q3 how hot does it get in the building? (i'm kinda going to be in cosplay so i wanna know if i'll die of a heat stroke XP)
Q4 do preregistered people get any special treatment? (i heard i get my pass quicker in line or something like that)
Q5 will there be any kind of real food sold in the hotel (not pocky and ramune) or do i have to go out to a fast food place?

ummm i think that's it, and thanks in advanced if you can help me

1+2.] It's technically open all night, but unless you're over 18, or are in love with Karaoke, I doubt you will find much (which is good for youngin's, sleep is good.) So I suppose the official time would be after the dance, because that's the biggest thing each night (J-rock on Friday. Rave on Saturday.)

3.] The building has a/c, so unless you have a furry costume, or more than four layers, temperature shouldn't be too much of a problem.

4.]Yes. You get a bag of goodies, you get into the dealer's room 30 minutes before the others, and you get a nifty badge with better artwork than the weekend-of badges (there's probably a few more privileges, which someone will elaborate of.)

5.] Yes, but it is a bit pricey (though not the most expensive food you can buy.) Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Chicken Nuggets, etc. . . So I wouldn't recommend eating full meals there. But you can buy chips, apples, drinks/water. Which is handy for the convention (try to have a small snack every hour to keep your energy up, and don't skip any meals.)

But for about 1/2 of the price you can hop across the street to Wendy's to get the same stuff. (Except for the fruit.)

Sorry if i missed anything or gave a bad answer

I'm not a kan noob but, will there still be water coolers around the hotel like last year? I seen them all over the place at NDK XII.

Nemisis47, there will be water coolers all around the con and the hotel staff will be constantly refilling them. Also, the store there sells bottles of water if you would like something that is portable and has more capacity than the small disposable cups they provide.

Rumor, you pretty much hit the nail on the head. The only other benefit to pre-registering for the convention is saving a fair amount of money. Also there are a lot of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel, so please don't feel like you can only eat at the hotel or Wendy's.

Also, I edited the title of the thread, please don't post topics in all caps.

The mexican place right by Wendy's is a tad pricey, but fun to go to with a group of friends on like Friday evening. It's really yummy.

If you feel like a bit of a drive down to exit 201, there is also a Ramen shop (an actual one, and it is fantastic) down by the Whole Foods.

There is also a Japanese Bowl place, Sakura Bowl, in the shopping center at Arapahoe and Quebec (Arapahoe being the next major road/exit south of Bellview) and a good Pho place, Pho Saigon II, in the shopping center at Arapahoe and Clinton (one light east of Arapahoe and I-25).

Both require that you hop in your car and go, though, so only if you are adventurous/lucky about parking at the hotel, or just want to get out for a little bit.

Thought I would expand on this. There is the regular hotel bar, the hotel restaurant and the Starbucks coffee shop (which sells snacks). Then the hotel does set up a food stand in the Atrium which has hot dogs, chips, pizza, etc, for sale during the day. I'm not sure the hours or even the days, but it will at least be open on Saturday.

There are several food places within walking distance, though your idea of "walking distance" may vary. There is also the option for getting food delivered, so check to see about Pizza Hut or Papa Johns or whatever.

If you want to wander around the hotel after events are done at night, prepare to be asked questions by security because random wandering or loitering is questionable late at night.  Though if you are in a group in the lobby it should be ok.

Not quite correct.  Loitering is against our policy at night, but you have someplace to go, go for it.  Hanging out in the atrium or lobby isn't a great option.  I would suggest you either return to your rooms or find an event/panel to attend.

Is there a hospitality suite?  All the other cons that I have been to had one but I didn't see any sign of one when I went to NDK last year.  Thanks

I have not heard any mention of a con suite. As we have not had one in previous years I do not believe we will have one this year.

consuits are getting phased out by a lot of conventions.  Most of the ones that still have them, they are for volunteers/staff only.  I see the smaller conventions still having them, but the 5000+ conventions rarely have them anymore as they are a huge money sink

This is an awesome convention

Sorry, no. As Sirblood mentioned, providing a hospitality suite for 6,500+ attendees would be a near impossibility.

This is correct.  While it might be thought that AX has a Con Suite they do not actually have one, the Con Suite at AX is actually provided by the directors of ALA.
